Chapter 51: Cousin Where are you
He tried to explain, "I didn't..."
He Huanhuan reached out and poked his arm. "Then why were you holding me?"
And holding her so tight that even after she woke up, she felt too embarrassed to move and just lay there with her eyes open until he woke up.
Han Mo was exasperated. He really ought to install a surveillance camera in this house so she could see how she tortured him last night!
"Hurry up and get up. It's getting late," she said.
He Huanhuan pushed him, urging him to get out of bed.
They climbed out through the window and washed up quickly.
She dragged him along the village path behind the houses, then slipped out of the village pretending to be morning strollers.
Han Mo was confused. "Why are we doing this?"
It felt like sneaking around like thieves.
He Huanhuan shot him a glare. "Well, aren't we basically thieves? Even if it's an abandoned house, we're still squatting here without permission!"
"If the villagers find out and kindly call the police, all the suffering we went through last night would be for nothing."
Standing at the village entrance, she glanced toward the city and asked Han Mo, "Can we really not go into the city?"
Han Mo shook his head. "We can't risk being caught on too many surveillance cameras."
Otherwise, they’d be easy to track down.
He Huanhuan refused to give up. "What if I wear a hat? Change my hairstyle, hunch over a little..."
"No."
Han Mo rejected it flatly. "Those are useless tricks. Big data scanning can identify you in a second."
He Huanhuan was speechless. "So I can't turn on my phone at all, huh?"
Han Mo nodded. "Right."
Then what the hell were they supposed to do?
These days, you couldn't do anything without a phone.
Even if you found a part-time job, they’d pay you through online transfers!
He Huanhuan frowned. "Honestly, I feel like you’re probably not in that much trouble. How about I just go home?"
She’d finally had a few days of good living—did she really have to suffer through meaningless hardship with him?
Han Mo took her hand and smiled softly. "Huanhuan, it’s too late. Your father has probably already noticed you’re missing. By now, he’s likely launched a large-scale search."
They were stuck together now. If she went home, he’d be found immediately.
He Huanhuan slapped her own forehead. "Why didn’t I think to call 120!"
If she had, she’d be sitting at the Gu family’s five-meter-long dining table having breakfast right now!
And she wouldn’t be starving!
"Growl~"
Her stomach chose that moment to complain, and she couldn’t help asking again, "Are you sure your cousin really betrayed you? Could it be that Han Xuan just managed to get information out of him?"
Han Mo’s face darkened instantly. "He graduated from a top-three university in the country. You think Han Xuan could trick him into talking?"
He Huanhuan waved her hand dismissively. "Fine, fine."
So they had no options left. She’d just have to go back to her old rough-and-tumble life with him!
She sighed, grabbed his arm, and dragged him toward an even more remote area. "Let's go!"
"Where?"
"To find a job!"
They avoided the main roads, sticking to country paths, slowly making their way to a remote suburb.
Back at the Chen family home, Chen Yu’s eyes were swollen red from crying as he knelt before Chen Chaoyang, sobbing uncontrollably.
Chen Chaoyang’s face was dark as thunder as he swung his belt fiercely, striking Chen Yu. "Tell me the truth! Was this your idea or Han Mo’s?"
Chen Yu winced in pain. "My cousin and I planned it together..."
Chen Chaoyang was furious. Those two brats had incredible nerve!
Risking their lives like this!
Did they think they were lead characters in a TV drama, unkillable?
Every year, how many people died in car accidents in this country? Hadn’t they ever looked at the statistics?
Thinking about this, he kicked his son hard. "Where is he now?"
Tears streamed down Chen Yu’s face. "I don’t know, sob sob sob... My cousin and I originally planned to do it the day after tomorrow. I went to his apartment last night—it was empty, sob sob sob..."
What were they going to do?
Never mind Han Mo—but now Miss Gu was missing too!
They had completely botched this!
Chen Chaoyang wished he could beat some sense into this idiot son.
"You already got the money back—why did you have to stir up more trouble?"
Chen Yu cried even harder. "We had to make the company collapse! That company was started by Auntie—why should that lecherous old man Han Changyong get to keep it?"
"You—!"
Chen Chaoyang wanted to scold him, but the words got stuck in his throat.
How could he not feel hatred?
Meixin was his only sister.
She had been like a little ray of sunshine, and in the end, she weighed barely over sixty pounds.
Whenever he thought of it, he couldn’t help but tear up.
He turned away, wiped the corner of his eye, and choked out, "But you can’t just follow Han Mo on these reckless schemes. He’s your aunt’s only child. If anything happens to him, how are you going to explain it to her?"
Chen Yu shrunk back, explaining guiltily, "I had the car reinforced. It wouldn’t have killed anyone..."
Chen Chaoyang raised his belt again. "Then where is he now?"
Chen Yu let out a wail. "I don’t know! I went to the apartment—there was no one there!"
He really couldn’t figure out how Han Xuan had found his cousin.
Going to find He Huanhuan had been a spur-of-the-moment decision. They were about to head home after work when his cousin suddenly realized she had deleted him and immediately drove off to see her.
He had tried to talk him out of it.
He said, "You won her over just so Uncle Gu wouldn’t pick Han Xuan, right? Now that your goal is achieved, there’s no more need for you two to stay in touch."
He remembered his cousin giving him a cold look, not saying a word, and driving away.
Damn love—truly destructive!
Cousin! If you don’t show up soon, he’s going to get beaten to death!
But unfortunately, Han Mo couldn’t hear his cries at all.
Right now, he and He Huanhuan were strolling through the fields.
Well, no—they were looking for work.
As for what kind of work, he had no idea.
After walking along the small path for over an hour, a brand-new residential complex appeared ahead.
He Huanhuan smiled and pointed at the complex. "I saw online that they’re hiring actors. Let’s go try out."
Han Mo was puzzled. "Actors?"
He Huanhuan shot him a knowing look. "Pretending you don’t know? Isn’t this the typical capitalist trick?"
When a new housing project launches, you bring in a bunch of people to pretend to be house-hunters, pretending to buy, and fighting over units.
They’d even get into fights, yelling curses at each other’s ancestors.
All to fool the real, unsuspecting buyers.
When they saw the chaos, they’d think, "Wow, people are literally fighting over these units!" and rush to buy.
Then, when they asked the salesperson, wouldn’t you know it—just one unit happened to open up.
The floor plan was bad, the floor was bad too, but since no one knew about it, the salesperson would sign them on the spot!
Once contracts were signed and deposits paid, guess what?
They’d realize they were the only real buyer in the whole place. Everyone else was just part of the atmosphere squad.
Han Mo was stunned. He knew sales departments had their tactics.
But the specifics—like getting people to fight and swear—would never show up in the performance reports.
The reports he received only listed how many units were sold that month, marketing expenses, revenue, and actual collections.
The breakdown of expenses? He’d never seen it.
He Huanhuan clapped her hands like an old pro. "Today, big sister is going to show you how the real world works!"
