Chapter 31: Don't You Have Anything You Like
"How do you know that?"
He asked He Huanhuan. She raised an eyebrow: "Are you saying those two are...?"
"At a hotel."
Han Mo's face reddened a bit more: "They're at a hotel. How do you know?"
He Huanhuan curled her lips slightly: "I have my little birds."
Her tone was so certain that Han Mo knew the news was a hundred percent true.
Gu Chacha chose Han Xuan. What did Han Xuan promise her?
When it came to gifts and spending money, Han Xuan couldn't compare to him.
So it could only be...
Shares.
That fool promised Gu Chacha some shares.
Had to be it.
A faint smile curled at the corner of his mouth. He really was as stupid as ever.
If so, as a good big brother, shouldn't he give him a push?
Lost in thought, he heard He Huanhuan say: "You look pretty sinister right now, you know that?"
He instinctively glanced at the rearview mirror. His own face was grim, his eyes cold.
He really didn't look like a good guy.
He blinked, burying all those schemes deep in his heart.
"Just thinking about something. Sorry."
He Huanhuan stared at him: "What were you just thinking about?"
Han Mo smiled politely: "Work stuff."
But He Huanhuan pressed on: "What work? Weren't you kicked out of the company? Do you even have a job right now?"
Han Mo: ...
Adults always leave a little room when they talk. If someone doesn't give a direct answer, you know not to push further.
But He Huanhuan was different. Her soul was still underage.
On top of that, she was a restless spirit. Whatever popped into her head, she had to say it.
As for whether you were willing to listen or answer?
Sorry, that wasn't within her consideration.
She locked her eyes on Han Mo: "You were just thinking about how to screw over Han Xuan, weren't you?"
...
"Does it matter?"
He Huanhuan nodded: "Of course it matters. That guy's ugly, and I can't stand the sight of him anyway."
Han Mo gave her a once-over. What did she mean by that?
Was she on his side?
Before he could dwell on it, He Huanhuan pressed on: "So, how were you planning to get him?"
Was that something you could just ask?
"Are you still in touch with my dad? Seems like the old man's pretty friendly with you. Did you ever talk about that East City project?"
"The old man wouldn't back Han Xuan, would he?"
"Does that mean Gu Chacha and Han Xuan slept together for nothing?"
"Your dad dislikes you that much. Do you think you've got a shot?"
"Would you marry me just to get that project?"
"I've watched TV shows. Guys like you marry me for a project. Then, when you get older, you feel resentful and go find some young chick to fool around with."
"You know 'Dwelling Narrowness,' right? That's how it goes."
"Are you Song Siming?"
...
What the hell was all that?
"Say something!"
Han Mo sighed helplessly: "You could at least give me a chance to answer."
He thought for a moment and asked He Huanhuan: "Do you want to marry me?"
He Huanhuan immediately shook her head: "It's illegal for minors to get married!"
Han Mo frowned: "I remember you're an adult."
He Huanhuan grinned: "My soul is still under eighteen."
"Fine."
Han Mo smiled helplessly: "Then why did you come out with me?"
He Huanhuan held up her phone: "You're my sugar daddy!"
He'd transferred her so much money!
Having dinner with him was nothing, right?
Han Mo went along with it: "What do you want to eat? Same as before, spicy hot pot?"
He Huanhuan shook her head: "Not feeling it today. Let's just get some beef noodles."
"Okay."
The car drove slowly until He Huanhuan picked a shop to eat at.
The second time stepping into a roadside joint, Han Mo was much more comfortable with it.
He ordered two bowls of noodles and sat down on the red plastic stool, waiting for the food to arrive with an easy expression.
When the steaming red noodles were set in front of him, he calmly snapped apart disposable chopsticks and started eating.
He Huanhuan deliberately wanted to see him struggle, but found him eating with complete composure.
She pouted in displeasure: "I thought you didn't like places like this?"
Han Mo wiped his mouth clean and smiled: "Actually, once you accept it mentally, it's pretty tasty."
It was the same with them. On the surface, they seemed completely mismatched and incompatible.
But once you accepted it in your heart, they actually fit well together.
He Huanhuan, however, didn't catch a single bit of what he meant.
She wrinkled her nose in annoyance: "That's no fun."
After finishing a bowl of blazingly spicy beef noodles, both of them had sweat beading on their foreheads.
Despite trying his best to hold it together, Han Mo still looked a bit frazzled.
He Huanhuan glanced at his reddened lips and finally felt a little satisfied.
She asked him: "Want to eat together again?"
Han Mo smiled and nodded: "It's pretty fun. I think we could eat at a lot of roadside joints together."
Damn!
He Huanhuan shot him a glare: "Who wants to eat with you? I'm way happier eating alone!"
"Okay."
He was still smiling, leaving He Huanhuan unable to figure out how to pick a fight.
She huffed, stood up, and walked out.
She didn't get in the car, just walked along the roadside instead.
Han Mo quietly followed alongside her, trailing her street after street.
Habits really were a torment. Before, she could walk for three to five hours without getting tired.
But after just a few days of the good life at the Gu family, her body had gone soft.
After only three blocks, her feet were aching.
Just two hours, and she was already tired!
She'd changed!
She wasn't the same person anymore!
An unspeakable grievance welled up inside her. She whirled around and glared at Han Mo: "You're tired of walking, aren't you?"
A hint of amusement flickered in Han Mo's eyes. He asked her: "Should I be tired?"
Her eyes grew wider: "How would I know if you're tired or not? I'm not you!"
Han Mo's smile deepened: "You know. You can feel it."
"I—"
She was about to snap, but Han Mo suddenly reached out and took her hand.
"Feel it. Do you think I'm tired?"
The warmth of his body traveled through his fingertips and palm, rushing into her blood. Her face suddenly felt hot.
Her eyes couldn't help but dart away: "I think you should be tired. Yeah, you're definitely tired."
Han Mo smiled and tightened his grip on her hand: "Then should we take a taxi back?"
He Huanhuan hesitated: "But the car's still back there..."
"It's fine. It's not going to get stolen."
They hailed a ride-hailing car and sat together back to the Gu family home.
The car pulled into the estate, and He Huanhuan got out.
She should have just gone straight home, but a moment's hesitation tugged at her heart.
She looked down at Han Mo: "Want to come up to the third floor for a bit?"
Han Mo looked up at her: "Am I allowed to?"
"Of course you are."
The third floor was empty. After Gu Chacha moved her things out, He Huanhuan hadn't added anything new.
Maybe because her heart didn't truly belong here, she hadn't felt the need to stake any claims.
Han Mo stepped onto the third floor with her, and seeing the stark emptiness, he couldn't help but frown: "Don't you have anything you like?"
Girls her age usually had so many passions.
Cute dolls he couldn't name, limited-edition blind boxes, pretty clothes, luxury bags...
But her room had nothing at all.
Like if she left someday, any trace of her could be wiped away in an instant.
