Chapter 66: Shen Linyan's Ex-Wife Is Me
The moment she saw Shen Linyan, An Ling quickly pulled back the foot she was using to kick stones.
She stood in place, uncomfortably putting her face mask back on.
"Did you come here to eat?"
Shen Linyan looked at her for a moment, then walked over and asked softly, "Do you have a cold? Why the sudden mask? Did you catch it from me?"
"No, no!" An Ling quickly waved her hands.
She turned to look around, raising her hand to whisper, "It's because I don't want your mother to recognize me. That old woman is too annoying!"
If she were recognized now, it would definitely cause a ton of trouble.
Hearing this, Shen Linyan chuckled softly and handed over the bag in his hand. "Do you want to eat this?"
"What?" An Ling looked down and saw various kinds of bread in the bag.
Butter and Sugar.
A very popular bakery brand, famous for being expensive and hard to buy, but the taste was absolutely superb. It was often the afternoon tea choice for wealthy young ladies.
An Ling used to love their pistachio chocolate scones, but because they were too hard to get and too expensive, she couldn't be bothered to find a scalper to buy them for her, so she hadn't eaten them in a long time.
She hadn't had dinner yet and her stomach was starving. Seeing this, her eyes instantly lit up. "Can I take one?!"
Shen Linyan opened the bag. "You can take as many as you want. Choose some you like."
An Ling looked down and picked out that familiar scone from the bag. "This one is fine."
"Do you like eating this?" The man glanced at the pastry in her hand.
An Ling nodded. "I used to like it, but I haven't had it in a long time."
You can't bite the hand that feeds you. It seemed today was still not a good time to reject him.
Her mood instantly relaxed. She waved the pastry in her hand, her eyes curving into a smile under the brim of her hat. "Thank you, Chairman Shen!"
Shen Linyan smiled, closed the bag, and handed it to her.
"Then share the rest of these with your colleagues."
"?"
She took the bag in confusion. "Aren't you going to take it inside for Shen Fuyuan to eat?"
"No need." Shen Linyan's eyes curved in a smile. "They don't know I came. I have work later, so I'll be leaving first."
As soon as he said this, An Ling's expression froze.
Did Shen Linyan come here specifically for her?
Was the bread also bought specifically for her?
The questions were on the tip of her tongue, but it seemed unnecessary to ask them out loud.
Noticing the familiar tie on the man's clothes, An Ling's gaze paused. She gripped the bag in her hand tightly and turned to look at the villa.
Her colleagues should be coming out soon...
A few seconds later, she let out a helpless sigh, looking up to meet the man's slightly stunned eyes.
"Shen Linyan, are you free tonight? Let's talk."
It's better to end this as soon as possible.
-
Returning to the car and seeing the pastries, the colleagues were all very excited.
"Where did this come from? An Ling, did you go buy it?"
"Oh my god, I'm starving to death. I wish I could go eat some street-side fried noodles right now, the kind with wok hei, sizzling with oil and steaming hot."
"I give up. Chen Hang, don't say that, I'm already hungry as it is."
However, when they saw the logo on the bag, everyone's excited chatter suddenly stopped, and they looked at An Ling hesitantly.
"This... can we really eat this?"
Isn't it too expensive? Just one small piece of bread is almost a few hundred yuan.
An Ling smiled and opened the bag wide. "Eat up, don't worry. I didn't buy this. Shen Linyan just brought it over for you guys to eat. He said you've worked hard."
"Really? Chairman Shen came over?"
Everyone instantly felt relieved and took them.
Nan Zhechuan walked over last. "What are you guys looking at?"
A colleague turned around. "Chairman Shen came over to deliver food."
Another colleague opened the bag, moved. "Brother Nan, I now support what you said before about Chairman Shen being a good guy."
Nan Zhechuan smiled at them and casually grabbed a piece of bread to eat.
An Ling quietly pulled him aside and spoke in a low voice, "Brother Nan, I have something to do, so I won't be going back to the company with you all."
Nan Zhechuan nodded. It was already time to get off work anyway; they were just going back to the company to grab some things.
He bit into his bread and looked down to take out his phone. "Alright, are you leaving right now? It doesn't look very easy to catch a cab around here."
An Ling thought for a moment before speaking up, "Brother Nan, I have to tell you something."
Nan Zhechuan looked up at her. "What is it?"
"Shen Linyan's ex-wife is me."
"..."
"Smack—" The bread fell to the ground.
Nan Zhechuan's expression went blank. He opened his mouth and closed it again, wanting to speak but stopping. "It really is you..."
It wasn't just a coincidence with the name??
He had been wondering why Shen Linyan kept looking over at their side during dinner last time. It turned out the man's ex-wife was sitting right next to him.
"It's me," An Ling nodded. "My role as executive producer won't be a secret for long, but please don't tell them for now. I'll take on some of the logistics work, so it might be tough on you to handle the communications with the Shen family."
"That's not a problem, I was doing that anyway." Nan Zhechuan bent down to pick up the bread. As if suddenly realizing something, his face stiffened.
Good lord, that group of people was still eating it.
This was bought by Chairman Shen for his ex-wife.
He tore off the dirty part on top, looked down, and took a bite. "So are you leaving with Shen Linyan later?"
Weren't these two divorced?
"No, he had something to do and left first. I'll go find him later."
An Ling glanced at the time on her wristwatch. "I'll be going then. If there's any work, just send me a WeChat message."
"Alright, go ahead."
After seeing An Ling off, Nan Zhechuan returned to the front of the car.
He looked at his colleagues who were still eating, looked up, and clicked his tongue in amazement:
"Life really is full of surprises everywhere."
Other colleagues: ?
Did this guy go crazy from hunger?
Leaving the Shen family's place, An Ling got into the black sedan parked by the road.
Secretary Chen in the front seat greeted her.
"Good evening, Miss An. Chairman Shen is still in a meeting. There was a temporary meeting tonight, so I will take you back first."
"Okay."
Returning to that apartment after a long time, An Ling walked to the door.
Just as she raised her hand, she hesitated and stopped.
The passcode hasn't changed, right?
She hesitantly entered it once. Accompanied by a familiar "beep", the door opened.
The dim yellow light from the hallway shone into the house. The living room remained just as it used to be. The pitch-black interior was cold and desolate, and the moment the door opened, a wisp of cold air drifted out.
It was as if no one had lived there for a long time, completely devoid of human presence, as if returning to the very first day she had come to this house.
Turning on the lights and stepping inside, she noticed a hospital bag on the dining table. An Ling picked it up to take a look and found that the medicines inside were all still new and hadn't been opened or taken at all.
She smiled helplessly, put the medicine back down, placed her bag on the sofa, and turned to look at the bedroom.
After hesitating for a moment, she still walked to the bedroom door and pressed down on the door handle.
"Creak—"
The inside of the room was exactly as it had been when she just moved out.
The skincare products she hadn't taken with her were left on the dressing table, scattered messily. There were still a few pieces of clothing on the bed that she had casually tossed there while packing, and even the wardrobe was still open.
Anyone who didn't know better would think she had just left yesterday.
An Ling was stunned for a moment.
Didn't Auntie Cheng clean up?
She had originally thought this room would be completely emptied out.
An Ling looked for a while, then closed the door again.
Just as she sat back down on the sofa, a sound came from the front door.
"Beep—"
She turned her head and met the gaze of the man walking in.
