Chapter 135: Did My Wife Do It on Purpose
On the second to last day, it was still Shen Linyan who delivered the cookies to the An family's home.
An Ling was sleeping groggily when, in the next second, she was pulled into a warm embrace.
Catching that familiar scent, she turned over with her eyes still closed, her voice soft and slightly drawn out at the end, "Have you finished delivering the cookies?"
Shen Linyan kissed her forehead. "I dropped them off. Mom even asked me why you didn't come."
Was it that she didn't want to go?
An Ling let out a soft snort with her eyes closed and pushed his arm away. "And whose fault is that?"
She had originally planned to go on a date after delivering the cookies!
"My fault, my fault."
The man's tone held a smile as he pulled her back into his arms, gently massaging her waist. "I booked a restaurant for tonight."
An Ling didn't even know how many times they had done it last night; everything below her waist felt numb. Being massaged by him felt so comfortable that she grew drowsy.
Halfway through the massage, his movements suddenly stopped as if he was reaching for something.
"Honey, Mom said to give this to you."
"Hmm?"
She groggily reached out to take the item, her slender, fair arms covered in hickeys.
"What is it?"
Opening her sleepy eyes, she glanced at the object in her hand.
When she saw the familiar piece of yellow paper, her sleepiness vanished instantly. Her face flushed bright red, as if she were holding a hot potato.
"Why did you bring this back!"
Didn't Mom say it was for her?! How did it end up in Shen Linyan's hands!
"Mom asked me to bring it over, saying you should put it under your pillow," Shen Linyan said, smiling as he held her hand.
His lips were practically brushing against her ear as he spoke. "If I had known, I would have gone to get it last night, right, honey?"
The man's voice was wrapped in a smile, deep and magnetic.
Last night, he had used this exact same tone, leaning into her ear to say, "Honey, just one last time," only to trick her again and again.
Yet, the moment she heard his voice, she completely lost her temper.
An Ling silently muttered a few times about how a pretty face could ruin a person. With red ears, she stuffed the talisman paper under her pillow. "What do you mean 'right'? I don't understand. I'm a materialist, I don't believe in this stuff."
"So what my wife means is that if we try a few more times, then..."
"I didn't say that!"
An Ling covered his mouth and turned her back to him. "I'm going to sleep. I'm ignoring you."
Shen Linyan smiled, hugging her again and gently massaging her waist. "Alright, go to sleep, my wife."
Outside the window, sunlight slipped through the gaps in the curtains and crept onto the edge of the bed. An Ling kept her eyes closed, listening to the breathing of the man behind her, before slowly opening them again.
She sluggishly turned her head to cast a glance.
"Didn't you want to know why I haven't kissed you for the past month?"
"Hmm?"
An Ling's eyes curved into crescents. Clinging to his shoulders, she looked up, leaned close to his ear, and slowly whispered something.
In an instant, the man's breathing turned ragged.
The muscles in his arms tensed slightly, his Adam's apple bobbed, and his eyes darkened. He lowered his head, just about to kiss her lips.
But the girl simply tilted her head away and flopped back onto the pillow with her eyes closed.
"Ah, I'm so tired, so tired, so tired... Hubby, I want to sleep. My body is so sore, I don't want to move at all."
Her tone was feigning pitifulness, and her beautiful face still bore a lingering flush, making it impossible for anyone to be mad at her.
Shen Linyan paused. He slowly lowered his head, lightly pressing the tip of his nose against the girl's cheek. His breath was scalding, and his voice was a bit hoarse. "Did you do that on purpose, honey?"
An Ling opened her eyes and blinked at him. "What on purpose? You were the one who asked."
She absolutely did it on purpose.
Who told Shen Linyan to keep tricking her last night.
In order to avoid being seduced by his good looks, An Ling smartly closed her eyes and turned her back. "Alright, now I'm really going to sleep."
But in the very next second, her back was pressed against the man's burning chest, and dense, gentle kisses rained down on the side of her neck.
"My wife," a low chuckle escaped his throat. "There are actually many other ways."
An Ling: ?
The next second, her wrist was gently grasped.
"?!?"
She widened her eyes in shock, turning her head only to meet the man's curved, smiling eyes.
He tenderly kissed her face, then kissed her lips over and over again. Accompanied by heavy panting, his cold and noble features looked increasingly sexy due to his restrained lust. "Baby."
An Ling: "..."
Her husband was so handsome.
...
On the day of An Zhou's wedding, the banquet hall was filled with white roses.
The crystal chandeliers poured out a warm, golden, soft light, shimmering brightly. The sides of the runway were covered with creamy white velvet carpets.
The area below the stage was packed with guests. An Ling sat on the groom's side, looking up at the stage.
An Zhou was dressed in a black suit, his posture straight and proper. His hair was meticulously styled, and there was a touch of maturity in his features.
Finding it somewhat novel, An Ling took out her phone, snapped a picture of him, and showed it to Shen Linyan beside her. "This is my first time seeing my brother like this."
Normally, An Zhou always had a careless, laid-back attitude. She didn't expect him to actually look quite handsome when he got serious.
Shen Linyan lowered his eyes to take a look.
"It is indeed very different."
"Right? Even I haven't seen him much like this—"
"My wife seems to have never taken a photo of me."
"..." Here he goes again.
An Ling turned her head to look at him.
After a few seconds of silent eye contact, she looked around. Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, she opened her camera, switched to the front-facing lens, and, with smiling eyes, curled her finger at the man.
"Come here, hubby."
"Coming." Shen Linyan smiled, gently resting his chin in the palm of her hand.
As the shutter clicked, the corners of the man's lips curled up slightly. He suddenly turned his head and planted a feather-light kiss on her cheek.
As the music in the banquet hall began to play, Qin You appeared in a trailing wedding gown. The hem of her dress was adorned with crushed rhinestones and pearls, and her veil lightly brushed over her shoulders. She looked exquisite and beautiful, carrying an air of elegant and quiet gentleness.
Following the schedule, they said their vows and exchanged rings. The moment they embraced and kissed, thunderous applause erupted throughout the hall.
Confetti and flower petals danced in the air, and the lights flashed, freezing the most romantic moment in time.
An Ling sat below the stage, staring at the scene in a trance. Suddenly, under the dining table, someone gently hooked her finger.
She turned her head and met the man's gentle gaze.
She slowly curved her eyes into a smile and hooked her fingers around his in return.
...
After the wedding, the New Year was also approaching.
An Ling and Shen Linyan had their New Year's Eve dinner at the An family home. After the meal, the family was watching TV on the sofa when Mother An suddenly spoke up.
"An Zhou, Lingling, do you want to play mahjong?"
An Zhou: "..."
An Ling: "..."
Qin You, who was sitting to the side, hadn't even reacted before An Zhou pulled her up. "Mom, I'm taking Youyou outside to set off fireworks."
Qin You stood up with him, completely confused. As they walked to the door, her puzzled voice could still be heard, "Mom said she wanted to play, why aren't we playing?"
An Zhou quickly shushed her twice and lowered his voice. "If we start playing, it'll go on until midnight. Can your healthy sleep schedule handle staying up that late, my dear lady?"
Qin You: "Aren't you the one playing? Why do I have to stay up?"
An Zhou: "You're not going to keep me company?!"
Qin You: "Yeah."
An Zhou: "..."
He sounded as if he were gritting his back teeth. "No way! Our family has a mahjong tradition: a wife must accompany her husband when he plays."
Mother An's voice leisurely drifted over: "No we don't. Last time Xiao Yan even went to Lingling's room to rest."
An Zhou: "...Mom!"
A woman's faint laugh could be heard in the air.
"Go ahead and laugh at your husband!" An Zhou said, pulling her out the door.
Following the sound of the door closing, Mother An looked at An Ling beside her.
An Ling: "..."
She silently stood up, her gaze shifting evasively. "Honey... let's go out for a walk too. Didn't you say you were curious about what fun things there are to do around here?"
Mother An looked suspicious. "Is that true?"
An Ling hid her hand behind her back, secretly signaling the man.
Shen Linyan grasped her hand, smiling as he gave Mother An a slight nod. "It is true, Mom."
Mother An sighed and waved them off. "Go on, go on."
Once everyone had left, she picked up her phone.
These kids, honestly. Now she could only play digital mahjong.
She patted Father An beside her.
"Lao An, hurry up and enter the lobby. I sent you an invite."
