Chapter 75: Big Brother's Arrangement
He went on and on, talking about how Gu Chacha had a black heart, and had always liked to mess with him back in the day.
After Huanhuan came to the house, she kept picking on Huanhuan nonstop.
But he could talk until his throat went dry, and Gu Jingchen didn't react at all.
"Bro!"
He slapped the table in annoyance: "Are you even listening to me? Don't tell me you're still on Gu Chacha's side? Are you stupid or what?"
Gu Jingchen sat behind his desk, his fingertips tapping lightly twice on the surface: "I already know everything you've said. Is there anything else you'd like to add?"
Gu Jinghan stared with wide eyes: "You know? When did you find out? Really? Are you serious? Are you just messing with me?"
Gu Jingchen glanced at his brother, who had that foolish look on his face, and let out a silent sigh.
He turned the computer screen around to face him and pulled up the surveillance video of the car accident scene.
He paused the video right as the person got out of the car, and clicked to stop: "Notice anything off?"
Gu Jinghan stared hard at the screen, then stared even harder: "That hat of his is pretty stylish."
...
His brother wanted to sigh again: "That's the hat we got on our trip to the Maldives last year, the one that made you and Chacha fight."
Last year he'd insisted it was ugly, called it double ugly, and now suddenly it was stylish.
Gu Jinghan's eyes went wide at that: "Really? No wonder it looks so ugly!"
...
His brother turned the computer back around. Forget it, even if he showed him, he wouldn't get it.
He waved his hand: "You don't need to worry about this. I've got it handled."
Then, after a moment of thought, he carefully added: "Your hotel has a lot of employees too. Don't go causing unnecessary trouble."
The hotel wasn't a big deal to Jinghan—it was just a small startup project from his college days.
But a stable job was everything to ordinary people. The monthly paycheck was what gave them the confidence to live their lives properly.
Don't let employees pay the price for your own whims.
Gu Jinghan nodded: "I know. I only risked eavesdropping because I was worried about Huanhuan."
Otherwise, why would he eavesdrop on Gu Chacha's hotel room? He wasn't some pervert.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Gu Jingchen's mouth: "She's doing fine right now. She's staying over at Liang Ye's place."
"What?"
Gu Jinghan jumped straight up: "How do you know where she is? Did she contact you?"
He immediately felt wronged: "But I treat her so much better! Why didn't she contact me?"
"Sit down properly and act your age."
Gu Jingchen scolded him, exasperated: "Liang Zheng told me. Huanhuan and Han Mo are both staying at Liang Ye's place."
Gu Jinghan couldn't quite wrap his head around the three of them: "How are the three of them living together? That relationship dynamic is a bit messy, isn't it?"
"Liang Zheng said there's another girl staying with Huanhuan and the others. She looks..." Gu Jingchen wasn't sure how to repeat Liang Zheng's description: "like a delinquent girl—tattoos, dyed hair, mooching off men. Apparently she's Huanhuan's friend."
Tattoos, dyed hair, mooching off men...
So she was Huanhuan's wild version?
Gu Jinghan clicked his tongue in amazement: "Huanhuan's already such an amazing person, and there's a wilder version of her? I've gotta go see this!"
He got up to leave but was stopped by Gu Jingchen: "Don't go."
"Why not?"
He didn't understand. Now that they knew where Huanhuan was, shouldn't he go check on her?
Gu Jingchen picked up his phone: "She wasn't very happy at home. Let her have some fun outside."
Their parents weren't exactly attentive to her, and she could feel it.
Let her stay out there and enjoy herself with her friends. She could come back once everything was settled.
Gu Jinghan wrinkled his nose: "Fine."
He agreed verbally, but as soon as he got downstairs, he got in his car and drove into the city.
Fine, he wouldn't meet her. But he could at least sneak a peek, right?
Huanhuan had disappeared for days. He needed to confirm she was okay before he could feel at ease.
He parked the car across from the neighborhood and planned to stake out the place to catch sight of He Huanhuan.
On the third floor, Liang Ye was scrambling into his clothes: "Why didn't you guys wake me up! I'm late!"
He Huanhuan spread her hands: "We did wake you. You almost threw a punch at me."
No idea how the guy did it, but his sleep was so deep that no amount of calling could wake him up!
And the moment you tried to shove him, a fist came flying!
Liang Ye glared at Han Mo: "It's your fault for sleeping so badly the night before last and ruining my sleep. Otherwise I wouldn't have passed out right outside the sales hall!"
He hadn't even returned his coworker's scooter yet!
He'd only been transferred to this position about half a month ago and didn't know his colleagues well yet. How embarrassing!
Han Mo was speechless. The guy had snored all night long, and he had the nerve to say he didn't sleep well?
But his buddy looked like he was about to cry. He'd never been late to work in all his years of working!
Last night, Han Mo had briefly mentioned Liang Ye's family background, and Qi Meili was genuinely confused: "Did you rack up gambling debts behind your family's back?"
Liang Ye's eyes went wide in horror: "Don't say that! Gambling is bad! I don't gamble!"
Qi Meili was even more confused: "Then you don't owe any money. Why are you working?"
Liang Ye: "How can a person not work? If you don't work, you'll lose touch with society, get left behind by others, and—"
"Shut up!" Qi Meili's head was spinning: "It's just a lousy job. What's the big deal? Who the hell is chasing you anyway?"
He Huanhuan nodded: "Whoever's so eager to chase you, maybe you should just get together with her."
Liang Ye was speechless: "My grandpa said that only people who work hard have value to society!"
...
Times have changed, kid. In your grandparents' generation, society was developing at lightning speed and everyone was a pillar of the community.
Now, we're just ordinary workhorses.
But these beliefs were already deeply rooted in Liang Ye's soul. He was panicking: "My scooter is still at the sales hall! How am I supposed to get to work?"
Qi Meili couldn't stand to see him all whiny. She waved a hand grandly: "Stop crying! I'll drive you!"
He Huanhuan suggested: "How about I take him instead?"
She knew the area better and it would be more convenient.
Qi Meili was this close to flicking her on the forehead: "If you go drop him off, then I'm stuck at home with Han Laodeng. Do you want me dead or do you want him dead?"
Han Mo said that it would probably be him who dies.
Qi Meili grabbed her keys and headed out, dropping Liang Ye off at the village committee office.
Then he dragged her back and forth to the sales department twice to retrieve both scooters, and only then did Liang Ye let her go with a grin.
"I swear, how is there such a meek rich kid? If you can't handle it, let me do it!"
Qi Meili grumbled the whole way as she rode the scooter, until she made it back to the entrance of the neighborhood.
Her sharp eyes immediately spotted a car parked across the street, and inside sat a gorgeous, stunningly handsome guy!
Without a second thought, she turned around and rode over, tapping her slender fingers on the car window.
Gu Jinghan had just parked when the window was knocked on. His heart tightened instantly.
No way? Found out already?
He turned his head to look—bright red, amber yellow, vivid blue...
A thought flashed through his mind. As the window rolled down slowly, a rogue smile appeared under a head of crimson hair: "Hey handsome, got a girlfriend? If not, how about we date for a couple days?"
