After saying that, he politely greeted Old Mr. Gu and then left.

He Huanhuan was left completely bewildered, while Gu Chacha's expression was extremely sour.

He Huanhuan had no idea what was going on. "Who is he? Why’s he inviting me to dinner?"

Gu Jinghan leaned in gossipily and whispered in her ear, "That’s your fiancé."

"What the hell?"

Gu Jinghan, never one to avoid stirring things up, cheerfully told her Han Mo's identity.

The Han family and their Gu family were among the top wealthy clans in Jiangcheng.

Real estate in Jiangcheng was basically divided between the two families.

In recent years, the local government had been planning to shift the development focus to the eastern part of the city, which made the relationship between the two families a bit delicate.

All the land in the eastern part belonged to the Gu family.

If the Han family wanted a piece of the pie, they had to play nice.

Han Mo was the embodiment of the Han family’s willingness to cooperate.

Back when they were younger, Old Mr. Gu and Han Mo’s father had joked about arranging a marriage during a drinking party.

Last year, both families took that joke seriously and officially betrothed the two of them.

Gu Jinghan glanced at Gu Chacha, whose face was turning uglier by the second. "So yeah, Han Mo is basically our family’s future son-in-law."

Gu Chacha’s fiancé, in other words.

Wait, so why was he asking her to dinner?

He Huanhuan wanted to ask more, but Gu Jinghan pushed her toward the door. "Let’s go downstairs for a stroll. I’ll buy you some new clothes, how about it?"

He Huanhuan’s attention was instantly hijacked. "Only a fool would say no."

Meanwhile, in the parking lot, Han Mo sat in his car reviewing his work schedule for the next few days.

His slender fingers swiped across the tablet as he coldly instructed, "Clear my schedule after ten tomorrow."

The young man in the driver’s seat hesitated for a moment, then turned to ask, "Are you really going to have dinner with that Gu family girl?"

Han Mo looked up at him. "What about it?"

"Is their family really planning to swap the person you’re supposed to marry?"

Han Mo’s gaze dropped back to the screen, his voice flat. "I asked her out right in front of Gu Chengye. He told me to show her a good time around Jiangcheng. What do you think that means?"

The young man bristled. "But this is way too reckless! You’ve already been involved with Gu Chacha for two years, and now they just swap her out?"

"Chen Yu."

Han Mo suddenly looked up and stopped him mid-rant. "You know what I need. Who that person is doesn’t matter to me."

His expression was calm, but his dark pupils held an unshakable resolve.

Chen Yu opened his mouth to argue, the words piling up inside him.

In the end, he swallowed them all and simply replied, "Alright."

At nine-fifty the next morning, a car arrived at the Gu residence on time.

A door to a guest room on the first floor cracked open. Gu Chacha hid behind it, watching Han Mo carry gifts up to the third floor.

She’d thought the marriage alliance was clearly between her and Han Mo. So why, as soon as He Huanhuan showed up, did it become hers?

Yesterday, right in front of the whole family, Han Mo had been fawning all over He Huanhuan, and her father didn’t say a word.

Everyone just acted like she didn’t exist!

Why?

She had been the daughter of this household for twenty years!

He Huanhuan was just some country bumpkin who showed up out of nowhere!

Bitterly, she sat down on her bed. Her third-floor room was no longer hers, and now her fiancé was about to become He Huanhuan’s, too.

What next? Her parents? Her black card?

Her hands clenched unconsciously as she picked up her phone and called her best friend Song Zhuo.

When the call connected, she choked up tearfully. "Fufu, I feel so awful..."

Up on the third floor, Han Mo handed a gift bag to He Huanhuan. "I wasn’t sure what you’d like, so I had the store send over their latest bestsellers. Hope you like them."

He Huanhuan took the bag and peeked inside. It was a handbag with some English words on it she couldn’t read.

"Louis. Isn’t that a jeans brand?"

Back when she was with Qi Meili, that friend had a boyfriend who constantly bragged that his jeans were some big-name brand.

It was something-something-ouis.

Total poser. He was with Qi Meili for two weeks and never even treated them to a bowl of hotpot. Just kept showing off.

He Huanhuan blinked her ignorant eyes and asked Han Mo, "Do jeans brands make handbags now?"

Han Mo was silent.

Maybe this newly returned heiress of the Gu family wasn’t quite... normal.

He couldn’t help but frown. "This is Louis Vuitton."

He Huanhuan finally realized her mistake. It wasn’t a jeans brand.

She pulled the bag out. It was brown, covered in "LV" patterns.

"Oh my god! It's that one—the famous one!"

Recognizing the logo, she suddenly got it. This was the big luxury brand everyone talked about!

She turned the bag over in her hands, examining it from every angle. "Damn! So this is what LV looks like?"

This was an education!

She was even touching an LV now!

"How much did this bag cost?"

She asked Han Mo, whose frown deepened. "You don't know?"

He Huanhuan shook her head. "No. First time touching one today."

A glimmer of understanding flashed in Han Mo's eyes. It seemed the Gu family's real daughter hadn't lived a very good life before this.

Well then... winning her over should be easier, right?

He looked at her. "What do you want for lunch?"

"Spicy hotpot!"

She’d picked a fight on Qi Meili’s behalf just to get a bowl of spicy hotpot.

But she never got that hotpot, and then she died and transmigrated into a novel.

Her first meal here was some cold and greasy Japanese food.

Now just thinking about spicy hotpot made her mouth water.

Caught off guard, Han Mo stammered, "Spicy... hotpot?"

"Yeah, that’s all I want. So are you buying or not?"

He Huanhuan had made up her mind. If he didn't treat her to hotpot, she wasn’t going anywhere with him.

No more of that awful Japanese food—she’d had enough.

"Fine."

Han Mo nodded without a second thought.

His goal today was to show the Gu family his willingness to cooperate.

If he wanted a piece of the eastern city real estate deal, he had to get involved in the planning.

That would give him more leverage in the boardroom and eventually, the power to kick Han Xuan out for good.

As they walked out and headed downstairs, he opened the car door for her like a gentleman. "Please."

He Huanhuan made a face like she’d bitten into a lemon. "Why do you also drive such a crappy car?"

What was it with rich people and cheap cars?

Han Mo froze. "Crappy car?"

He wasn’t the type to flaunt, but for people in their circle, a car was more than transportation.

It was also a status symbol.

A Mercedes V-class was hardly a clunker.

Still, he immediately apologized. "I’m sorry, I was in a hurry this morning and didn’t switch cars. What do you prefer? I’ll remember for next time."

If He Huanhuan weren’t so set on getting her hotpot, she wouldn’t even bother dealing with him.

She raised her hand and waved. The head of the security team, catching on immediately, drove an electric scooter over. "Miss, the battery’s fully charged. You’re good to go."

He even thoughtfully handed her two helmets.

He Huanhuan put on a helmet and handed the other to Han Mo. "I’ll drive today. Next time, bring a BYD or I’m not going anywhere with you."

"Huh?"

Han Mo was taken aback. Drive a what?

Old Tang floated over just in time and whispered in his ear, "Miss gets really carsick. She can’t ride in fancy cars—only a BYD works for her."

Ah, that explained it.

Han Mo took the helmet and put it on, nodding. "After lunch, we’ll go buy one."
