Chapter 69: Sisters Reunited
After walking out of the sales center, He Huanhuan shoved two hundred yuan at Wang Qiang. "Here, paying you back."
Wang Qiang felt embarrassed. "You guys are struggling right now too. Why don't you wait until things ease up before paying me back?"
He glanced at their clean, tidy clothes and couldn't help asking, "Where did you two sleep last night? You didn't end up on the streets, did you?"
He Huanhuan pointed at Liang Ye, who was curled up on the electric scooter. "Don't worry, we found ourselves a temporary sucker."
She shoved the money directly into Wang Qiang's hands. "Take it. You're not well-off either."
Wang Qiang blushed and accepted the money. Payday was still several days away, and he really was running low on cash...
He Huanhuan patted him on the shoulder. "Hurry back to work. Your team leader is staring at you."
Wang Qiang turned around—sure enough! The team leader's tiny bean-like eyes were fixed dead on him.
No wait, fixed on the two hundred yuan in his hand.
He quickly stuffed the money into his pocket and walked back into the sales center.
The sales team leader watched him with burning eyes. "How did that money end up in your hands?"
That was supposed to be his meal.
Wang Qiang clenched his palm. "They borrowed two hundred from me before. They just paid it back."
The team leader didn't buy it. "Really?"
What were the odds that they happened to owe him exactly two hundred?
Wang Qiang nodded firmly. "Really. I got that two hundred from Brother Li in exchange. Ask him if you don't believe me."
The team leader waved his hand. "Of course I believe you."
But inside, he couldn't help developing a grudge against Wang Qiang. Hmph, this snot-nosed kid had no sense!
He'd practically hinted at it, and the kid still hadn't offered the money to him.
If he still didn't close a deal next month, hmph...
Outside the hall, He Huanhuan hugged the sleeping Qi Meili, struggling to prop her onto the electric scooter.
She ordered Han Mo, "You sit in the back and hold her up."
She and Han Mo sandwiched Qi Meili between them. Qi Meili's head lolled backward uncontrollably, and Han Mo had to constantly prop her up.
He couldn't help asking, "Should we just take a taxi? This feels a bit dangerous."
He Huanhuan shot him a glance. "Do you have money or do I?"
Remembering the little money they had left, Han Mo silently reached out and held Qi Meili's head steady.
Liang Ye stared at the two electric scooters in front of him, worried. "If you two leave, what am I supposed to do? I can't ride two scooters by myself."
He Huanhuan pointed at the sales office. "Go inside and ask someone to help you."
Liang Ye hesitated. "What if they don't want to?"
He Huanhuan gunned the throttle, and the scooter zoomed off. "If they won't, then beg them!"
"What if they still won't after I beg?"
"Then die!"
"That doesn't seem right..."
...
Liang Ye looked at the scooter, then at the sales office. Everyone silently averted their gaze.
He thought it over, then flopped to the ground in desperation. "If nobody helps me ride it back, I'm dead..."
"I'm dead..."
"I'm dead..."
"Snore..."
Three hours later, a colleague at the village committee checked his phone. "It's this late already. Why hasn't Xiao Liang come back yet?"
In the old neighborhood, He Huanhuan rested her chin on both hands, staring intently at the sleeping figure on the bed.
"How did Meili get here?" she wondered.
Han Mo crouched beside her, also staring. "Who is she exactly?"
He Huanhuan reached out and touched the tattoo on Qi Meili's arm. "See this tattoo? Buy one get one free—we got them together."
Han Mo nodded. "I see it."
He remembered clearly—He Huanhuan had told him about her arm tattoo before. A blue Doraemon and a yellow SpongeBob.
Exactly the same as the ones on Qi Meili's arm. He'd noticed it right away.
It was way too noticeable.
He glanced at He Huanhuan. "She's your friend?"
He Huanhuan nodded. "My best friend. She's the one who got me into dyeing my hair and getting tattoos."
Han Mo was speechless. "...She never got you into anything else?"
He Huanhuan thought for a moment. "She told me to date. I wasn't really into it, so I didn't."
Han Mo's expression shifted slightly. "...Good thing you didn't."
He Huanhuan added, "She also taught me how to curse."
Han Mo asked, "You didn't learn that either?"
He Huanhuan smiled mysteriously. "Oh, I learned that really well. I surpassed my teacher—Meili can't even out-cuss me now."
Han Mo was at a loss for words. "...Alright then."
The two of them sat quietly by the bed, watching Qi Meili sleep, until they too drifted off, slumped over the bedside.
Time passed quietly. Outside, the sky gradually darkened. The person on the bed slowly opened her eyes.
Qi Meili smacked her lips. "Mm... I had such a good dream."
She dreamed of Huanhuan—the lively, energetic Huanhuan.
How wonderful.
She rubbed her eyes and got up, ready to go to work.
As her hand touched the edge of the bed, she felt a hand with well-defined knuckles.
Startled, she looked over—a strikingly handsome face with sharp features was resting by the bedside.
She was stunned, and without hesitation reached out: "SLAP!"
Han Mo jolted upright, staring at her in confusion.
Qi Meili asked him, "Does your face hurt?"
Han Mo nodded. "A little."
Qi Meili was shocked. "Holy shit! A wild gorgeous guy!"
Qi Meili swore this was the handsomest man she'd seen in the past two years!
She immediately asked, "Hey handsome, got a girlfriend? Wanna give us a try?"
Han Mo didn't say anything, but silently scooted backward.
As he sat up straight, Qi Meili suddenly noticed a lump of a person sleeping across his lap.
That person was curled up in a ball, face turned toward her direction.
"HE HUANHUAN!!"
He Huanhuan frowned. "Who's that? Don't be so loud..."
Qi Meili grabbed her and hauled her up. "Oh my god! Sister Huan! Yesterday when I went to the hospital, you were still a vegetable! When did you wake up?"
She had a loud voice, and her string of shouts startled He Huanhuan fully awake.
He Huanhuan groggily opened her eyes, meeting Qi Meili's gaze.
"Meili!"
"Huanhuan!"
The two let out a cry and hugged each other, wailing.
He Huanhuan's tears came pouring down. "Meili, I missed you so much!"
Qi Meili cried even harder. "Huanhuan! I've been working so hard!"
He Huanhuan nodded frantically. "I saw that! I even wanted to tell you to quit—I wasn't in that body anymore, wuwuwu... But you couldn't hear me..."
Qi Meili sobbed. "Silly child, what are you even saying? I didn't understand a word, wuwuwu..."
He Huanhuan peeled her off and rolled up her smooth arm for her to see. "Meili, don't you notice anything different about me?"
Qi Meili frowned in disgust. "Yeah, I noticed. You romantic fool! You covered up your sister's tattoo for a man. I'm ashamed of you."
He Huanhuan: "...My tattoos are gone!"
She grabbed Qi Meili's hand and rubbed it frantically over her own arm. Nothing came off.
Qi Meili marveled. "Where did you get your tattoos removed? That's incredible!"
...Seriously, people really should read more books.
