Chapter 48: Don't Call the Police

When the Street-Smart Girl Transmigrates into a Novel About the Real and Fake Heiresses · Licensed edition

The tremendous force sent Han Mo’s car spinning several times through the air before it crashed upside down onto the ground.

A long skid mark was etched into the asphalt, and thick smoke quickly billowed from the wrecked vehicle.

A van pulled up slowly, its door slid open, and a man wearing a hat and mask stepped out.

He walked over to the car, crouched down, and stared hard at Han Mo in the driver’s seat.

“Han Mo, don’t blame me. You brought this on yourself.”

“Han Xuan.”

Blood blurred his vision, but Han Mo still managed to say his name firmly: “Have you lost your mind?”

“I have lost my mind—because you drove me to it!”

Han Xuan lunged forward, grabbing Han Mo by the hair and screaming: “You forced me! Why did you come back to the company? Why?”

“The company account was locked...”

“Liar!”

A wild gleam flared in Han Xuan’s eyes. “You’re lying! You didn’t unlock the company account! You tricked me! And you tricked Dad! You liar!”

Han Mo struggled to open his eyes, caked with blood. Everything was a red haze, and his breathing came in frantic gasps. “I didn’t...”

“You didn’t my ass!”

Han Xuan wouldn’t listen. He cursed bitterly: “You really think I’m stupid? Brother Bao told me everything! He paid off some connections—it had nothing to do with you!”

He looked down at Han Mo, whose face was streaked with blood.

“Han Mo, if you want to blame anyone, blame Dad. Blame him for playing favorites, for cheating on Mom, for having kids he couldn’t raise right.”

With those words, he turned away without hesitation.

Behind him, fuel slowly leaked from the overturned car’s gas tank.

He pulled out a lighter, lit it, and calmly tossed it toward the wreck.

Flames began to rise, and he sat in the van, watching from a distance.

Until the deafening explosion rang out.

“Boom!”

A burst of sky-high sparks erupted. He took off his hat and saluted the flames. “Goodbye, Han Mo.”

The van sped away without a trace of regret.

Han Xuan laughed joyfully in the driver’s seat. From now on, the company would be all his!

Dad had no other choice now—he’d never have to worry about being kicked out again!

Ha ha ha ha!

What he didn’t know was that while he was crouched by the car, threatening Han Mo,

a hand had silently reached out from the bushes behind him.

That hand held a phone, capturing everything on video without moving an inch.

The moment he left, He Huanhuan rolled out from the bushes.

She slipped deftly into the car, unbuckled Han Mo’s seatbelt, and dragged him out.

She wiped his face carelessly, hoisted him onto her back, and carried him along the greenery toward the nearest hospital.

“Cough... cough...”

After walking for over half an hour, Han Mo finally regained some consciousness.

“Are... are you okay?”

He remembered that when the car was hit, it had crushed He Huanhuan’s electric scooter.

“You’re awake?”

He Huanhuan turned her head to look at him. “Hold on. It’s too remote here—I can’t hail a cab. I’ll keep walking until I find a ride, and then we’ll go to the hospital.”

“No hospital.”

Han Mo struggled to get down. “I have to go back... I have to go back...”

He Huanhuan tightened her grip on him. “What are you doing? Stop moving!”

At over six feet tall, Han Mo was heavy for her to carry.

When he struggled, she nearly toppled over.

But Han Mo insisted: “I have to get back...”

He Huanhuan didn’t understand. “Go back for what? That car is completely wrecked—it’s useless.”

“I need the dashcam footage to keep as evidence...”

“You can’t keep it anymore!”

He Huanhuan walked faster: “Han Xuan set the fire, and your car has been blown to ashes. So much for your damn evidence!”

“How dare he!”

Han Mo thought Han Xuan might lose his mind, but he never imagined Han Xuan would go this far.

“Han Mo, don’t blame me. If you want to blame anyone, blame...”

Suddenly, Han Xuan’s voice echoed in his ears. Han Mo looked down in surprise.

On He Huanhuan’s phone, a video was playing of Han Xuan threatening him coldly.

He stared at her in shock: “You filmed it?”

He Huanhuan sneered: “He was so arrogant, how could I not film it?”

She shifted Han Mo’s weight and hoisted him higher: “Don’t worry. I’ve got all the evidence we need. Han Xuan won’t get away with this.”

The most important thing now was to hail a taxi to the hospital.

His face was covered in blood, and he looked terrifying.

But unexpectedly, even with the evidence, Han Mo insisted: “Not the hospital for now.”

“Why now? Do you have a death wish?”

Han Mo struggled to get down: “I’m fine. I can walk.”

He had just checked himself over. He hadn’t sustained any major injuries.

Just a bump on the head, which had split open and bled a little.

It looked scary, but it probably wasn’t serious.

He took He Huanhuan’s hand and led her off the road into the trees by the roadside.

He Huanhuan was stunned: “What are you doing? Do you want to die?”

But Han Mo asked her: “Did you call for help just now?”

His question finally jogged her memory.

He Huanhuan slapped her thigh: “Damn! How did I forget? I could have called 911!”

She must have lost her mind, carrying Han Mo and looking for a taxi.

Why didn’t she just call 911?

She fumbled for her phone, ready to dial.

But Han Mo reached out and covered her phone with his hand: “Don’t call.”

“Huh?”

Han Mo wiped the blood off his face: “Go back. When you get home, don’t tell anyone you saw me tonight, okay?”

“Why?”

The one who broke the law was obviously Han Xuan.

Why did Han Mo have to hide?

He Huanhuan really didn’t understand.

But Han Mo didn’t seem willing to explain, which made He Huanhuan very unhappy.

She clutched her phone tightly: “If you don’t explain it to me clearly, I’ll delete the video!”

What was he playing at?

What was there to hide?

“Don’t delete.”

Han Mo’s pleading eyes fixed on her, which only made her more annoyed.

“Then come clean! Or I swear, I’ll call not just 911, but every emergency number I can think of!”

The two of them stood there, at a standoff.

Until Han Mo let out a soft sigh: “You weren’t supposed to be part of my plan...”

This accident had been in his plan, just not tonight.

The company’s account freeze was only temporary. Within two weeks at most, their company would be fully shut down.

By then, Han Changyong would definitely help Han Xuan pin everything on him.

That wasn’t the outcome he wanted.

He needed to give the company back to Han Xuan, let him go further, far enough that he could never recover.

“I didn’t expect him to come tonight.”

His plan was set for three days later. In three days, he had a business dinner that would run late.

Then, he would let Han Xuan know when his dinner ended and where he would go...

His face darkened: “I’m sorry for dragging you into this.”

He Huanhuan waved her hand: “That’s nothing. But how did Han Xuan know where you were tonight?”

Han Mo’s expression darkened even further. “Chen Yu, we had a plan. We were supposed to make him switch sides.”
