Chapter 45: Han Mo, It Is You After All
Over the next few days, he hired several planners to help him figure out how to smoothly carry out his plan.
But before the planners could deliver their proposals, his father’s thunderous fury arrived first.
“Han Xuan! What have you done?”
Han Changyong’s blood pressure spiked. “Why has the company account been frozen? What did you do to the company??”
“What?”
Han Xuan was caught off guard. “What do you mean the company account was frozen? It wasn’t me. I didn’t do anything.”
He hadn’t done anything, had he?
He hadn’t even gone to the company, and he hadn’t touched any projects. How could it be related to him?
Han Changyong replied furiously, “I just got a call. Someone told me that a sum of eight million deposited into the company account the day before yesterday came from a problematic source! If it wasn’t you, then who was it? What did you do?”
The moment he mentioned the eight million, Han Xuan snapped back to reality.
Damn it. It was that money!
He quickly called the person. The call was answered promptly, and he asked urgently, “Didn’t you say the money was clean? Why did my company account gets frozen?”
The person replied leisurely, “That must have been a subordinate sending it to the wrong account. It’s a minor issue.”
“Minor issue?”
Han Xuan, frantic, yelled, “It’s not minor at all! My dad knows! What’s wrong with your people? How could they be so careless? What am I supposed to do now?”
“Well, I gave you a fair amount of money. Just lie low for a while and keep your head down.”
With those dismissive words, the person hung up.
Han Xuan went absolutely crazy. What did he mean by “lie low for a while and keep your head down”?
Crap!
How could he lie low?
That was his family’s company!
If something happened to the company, he was finished!
His father would kill him!
Han Changyong called again, and Han Xuan was so terrified he threw his phone away.
What to do? What to do?
How could he cover this up?
He frantically called Gu Chacha. “Chacha, it’s bad. That unreliable guy sent a payment to the wrong account...”
After he explained everything, Gu Chacha became even more panicked. “Will I get caught? Will this affect me?”
She had only just started tasting the sweetness of fame and fortune, and she couldn’t bear to lose it.
Han Xuan pressed her anxiously, “Chacha, your father should have connections to fix this. Go and beg your dad.”
Old Mr. Gu has always had decent relationships with those people. It was just a small sum of eight million.
If he put in a word, those people would let it slide.
But Gu Chacha hesitated. “Can’t you figure it out yourself? Dad won’t listen to me.”
She didn’t want to beg Old Mr. Gu either.
If she asked for his help, she would have lost.
Han Xuan immediately launched a tirade of insults. “I goddamn wouldn’t be calling you if I had a solution! Do you still want to be a pianist or not? If you do, go to your dad!”
His harsh scolding caused Gu Chacha to break down. “Han Xuan!”
Han Xuan interrupted her impatiently. “Hurry up! If we’re late, we’re both done for!”
With that, he hung up and ignored Gu Chacha.
After much hesitation, Gu Chacha, unwilling to give up her current fame and fortune, drove back to the Gu family home.
Old Mr. Gu was walking in the garden. She forced a sweet smile and called out, “Dad~”
Seeing her return, Old Mr. Gu was pleasantly surprised. “Chacha, you’re here?”
Ever since she got together with Han Xuan, Gu Chacha had rarely come home.
When Jiang Yulan called her, the calls often went unanswered.
They had asked Gu Jinghan, knowing she had been busy with competitions and performances.
The couple hadn’t disturbed her further.
Children grew up and inevitably had their own lives.
Gu Chacha linked her arm with Gu Chengye’s and acted coyly. “Dad, I’ve been so busy and tired lately~”
Old Mr. Gu gave her a closer look. “You’ve lost weight. If you’re tired, come home and rest. It’s not like our family can’t support you.”
A flicker of emotion crossed Gu Chacha’s eyes, followed by a trace of barely concealed disgust.
Of course, the Gu family could support her, but what about supporting her ambitions?
Why hadn’t they lifted her up?
They had sent her to learn piano as a child, but why hadn’t they supported her to become a pianist when she grew up?
Wasn’t it because she was a daughter, not worth their effort?
What was the difference between how they raised her and how Jiang Yulan kept a pet dog?
They gave her food and shelter, but nothing else.
Bitterness and resentment simmered within her. But today, she had an agenda, so she buried those feelings deep.
Cautiously, she began, “Dad, Han Xuan has been working on some project with others. The company just received a sum of money, and then the account was frozen...”
Old Mr. Gu was surprised. “How did that happen?”
For a company of their scale, company accounts weren’t easily frozen.
Gu Chacha pouted. “Who knows? I asked him, but he won’t tell me. It has me so worried.”
Old Mr. Gu smiled reassuringly. “It means he’s growing up. He’s learning to shield you from trouble.”
“But Dad...”
Gu Chacha leaned her head on his shoulder. “I’m really worried. Can you help him out...”
It had been a long time since she had been this coddling with Old Mr. Gu. Pleased, he nodded. “Alright, let Dad make a call and ask around.”
After calling an old acquaintance, Old Mr. Gu mentioned Han Xuan, and the acquaintance replied directly, “Old Gu, this case involves cross-border fraud. It’s not something I can sway.”
Old Mr. Gu was shocked. “Cross-border fraud?”
Wasn’t Chacha saying that Han Xuan was investing in a project with someone else?
How did it involve cross-border fraud?
The acquaintance’s voice turned grave. “We’ve received a tip-off that Han Xuan has close ties with a cross-border fraud ring...”
After hanging up, Old Mr. Gu’s face darkened significantly.
Gu Chacha asked timidly, “Dad? What’s wrong?”
Old Mr. Gu stared at her sharply. “Chacha, tell Dad the truth. Who exactly was that investor you used to talk about?”
Gu Chacha’s heart skipped a beat. “Dad, why are you asking about that?”
Old Mr. Gu’s face turned cold. “Han Xuan is in deep trouble, do you know that? Someone reported him for involvement in cross-border telecom fraud! Tell me honestly—are you involved too?”
Gu Chacha shook her head in panic. “Dad, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Why did you suddenly start holding concerts? Who was that person who invested in you? And why did he invest in you? What did you do for him?”
Old Mr. Gu stepped closer, confronting her about the concerts.
Gu Chacha was so flustered she couldn’t even lie. She backed away urgently. “Dad, I—I have to go find Han Xuan. Yes! I need to find Han Xuan first!”
With that, she turned and ran, terrified that Old Mr. Gu might stop her.
She sped off in her car, blowing through three red lights. In the garden, Old Mr. Gu called Gu Jingchen. “Jingchen, your sister has made a huge mistake. See what you can do...”
Han Xuan had a penthouse in the city center. Gu Chacha raced there and rushed into the living room, shouting at him, “Did you know someone reported you! Your secret’s out! You’ve ruined me!”
Han Xuan looked up at her with reddened eyes. “Reported?”
A suspicion crossed his mind, and he immediately called a friend.
Ten minutes later, he was so enraged he smashed his phone.
A blazing murderous intent surged in his eyes, and he gritted his teeth, "Han Mo! It is you, after all!"
