Chapter 40: You Two Don't Look Like a Match
The input indicator showed "What's wrong?" for a second.
He Huanhuan suddenly felt emboldened and dialed his number directly!
Why was she even hesitating?
It was clearly Han Mo's fault—how could he just drop his ingratiating act halfway through?
Didn't he care about her feelings?
Unprofessional!
The phone rang once, and a familiar voice came through, calm with a hint of concern: "What's wrong? Is something the matter?"
He Huanhuan pouted: "I can only call you if something's wrong? Can't I call you for no reason?"
Her tone carried an unconscious intimacy, and Han Mo let out a soft chuckle.
"Of course you can. What are you up to?"
"Just finished eating."
Mentioning food, she got excited and asked, "Guess who I had lunch with today?"
On the other end, Han Mo's voice turned cold: "Liang Ye?"
He Huanhuan scoffed in disgust: "Please! Why would I eat with him?"
"Really?"
His voice relaxed again. "Then who was it?"
He Huanhuan gossiped: "Gu Chacha brought Han Xuan home to announce their relationship!"
"Them?"
Han Mo didn't seem surprised, which annoyed He Huanhuan.
If he wasn't surprised, how could she take credit?
She wrinkled her nose and asked, "You're not surprised?"
"Surprised. Extremely surprised, of course."
"More than that!"
He Huanhuan sat up excitedly: "Han Xuan tried to pressure the old man into letting him join the East City project during dinner, but I steered the conversation away!"
She was amazing, right? She was good to him, right?
Come on, praise her!
Han Mo chuckled lightly: "Thank you."
He Huanhuan was instantly satisfied: "No big deal! You've been so good to me, so it's only right that I'm good to you!"
Han Mo smiled and responded, "Mm."
Then came a long silence. He Huanhuan knew she should hang up, but she didn't want to.
She couldn't help feeling annoyed—she'd taken the initiative to call him, and all he did was grunt!
Her tone turned sharp: "If you've got nothing to say, I'm hanging up!"
She was about to end the call angrily when she heard Han Mo ask, "I heard Gu Chacha is planning a solo concert?"
He Huanhuan was puzzled: "How did you know?"
"They've been contacting venues for the last couple of days. The owner is a friend of mine."
He Huanhuan drew out her words: "I see... Then why did he tell you? Is it because she's your former fiancée?"
For some reason, Han Mo's heart suddenly filled with a strange guilt.
The feeling of being interrogated for no clear reason made his emotions complicated.
Guilt mixed with a trace of delight...
He coughed awkwardly: "That's not it. She and Han Xuan went together. My friend thought it was odd, so he told me..."
"Oh, I see..."
He Huanhuan fiddled with the strap of her clothes: "Speaking of which, I don't know any of your friends, but they all know about Gu Chacha..."
This damned guilt!
Han Mo coughed again: "If you want to meet him, I can take you to see him tomorrow. He doesn't have much to do anyway..."
He Huanhuan's lips curled up involuntarily: "Forget it. We'll all be there for Gu Chacha's performance anyway."
Han Mo immediately asked, "When is her performance? Let's go together?"
He Huanhuan couldn't help asking again, "You're that eager to go see her perform?"
The line went quiet again. He Huanhuan's heart tightened, afraid of hearing something she didn't want to.
"Forget it, forget it! We'll talk about it later!"
She hung up hastily and flopped onto her bed.
Damn it!
She felt like she'd lost somehow.
As for who she'd lost to, she couldn't quite say...
Ahhh...
So annoying!
Meanwhile, Han Mo stared at their closed chat window.
After a moment's thought, he typed and sent: "It's not that I want to go see her."
Her phone buzzed. He Huanhuan opened it and read the message.
"Ahhhh!!"
She couldn't help screaming again, then jumped up and dashed to Gu Jinghan's room.
"Second Brother!"
"What?"
Gu Jinghan frowned, sitting in front of his computer. He would give anything to install a bug in the presidential suite!
He was dying to know what Gu Chacha and Han Xuan were up to.
But he couldn't. It was illegal!
Ahhhh!
He wanted to scream too. Why did they have to stay in his hotel?
Couldn't they go somewhere else?
It was testing his moral limits!
He'd endure it!
He Huanhuan plopped down beside him: "Why are you looking at bugs?"
Gu Jinghan gritted his teeth: "I want to put one in the presidential suite to spy on Gu Chacha and Han Xuan..."
He Huanhuan frowned: "Wow, that's so creepy?"
Gu Jinghan could tell from her expression what she was thinking. He rolled his eyes helplessly: "I don't want to eavesdrop on that! I just want to know what they're plotting!"
"And! I haven't bought one! I'm just thinking about it!"
He reluctantly closed the webpage. Forget it, he wouldn't do anything illegal.
Besides, he really didn't want to hear them being lovey-dovey.
No matter how short the time, he couldn't stand it!
He glanced at He Huanhuan: "What do you want?"
He Huanhuan suddenly became shy: "Tell me, what do you think Han Mo is thinking?"
She really wanted to know Han Mo's feelings—about her.
But she couldn't ask. She couldn't just go up to him and say, "Hey, how do you feel about me?"
Qi Meili had a lot of relationships, but she moved fast.
She'd meet someone in the morning, get together by noon, share a bowl of spicy noodles in the evening, and break up by night.
The speed was too fast for He Huanhuan to use as a reference.
So she came to Gu Jinghan instead: "Do you think he's only being nice to me because of the old man's project?"
Gu Jinghan put on a serious face: "What else? It's not like he likes you or anything..."
......
He Huanhuan punched him in the stomach: "What's wrong with me? Am I not worthy of being liked?"
Gu Jinghan clutched his stomach and groaned: "You are, you are... But what does he like about you? You two don't seem like a good match..."
"Thump!"
Another punch hit his back. He Huanhuan turned and stormed off: "You don't know anything!"
She shouldn't have come to him!
She stomped back to the third floor, but Gu Jinghan's words kept echoing in her head. Not a good match?
Were they not?
She stood in front of the mirror. In the reflection, she had a small face, big eyes, and fair skin.
Wasn't that a good match?
Her gaze fell on her rainbow-colored hair, and she hesitated.
Was this what made them mismatched?
Should she dye it black?
Her heart ached. When she was young, she was thin and weak, often bullied.
It was Qi Meili who took her to dye her hair and get tattoos, bringing her into a group of "tough girls."
After that, no one dared bully her.
She'd never dyed her hair black since.
She loved her rainbow hair—it made her look fierce.
She loved that feeling.
