Chapter 162: Extra: Together Forever
At first light, Han Mo opened his eyes in bed. His hand instinctively reached for his wrist, only to find it empty—the watch was gone.
A smile tugged unconsciously at the corners of his lips. He thought, I really did help her back then, didn’t I?
The muddy country road from his dream came back to him, along with the old brick house at the end of it. In an instant, he remembered a house from long ago.
And he remembered what He Huanhuan had once said: “This house looks quite a bit like my old home...”
He thought he knew how to confess his feelings to her now.
Three days later.
Today was He Huanhuan’s twentieth birthday in the spiritual sense, and she had been looking forward to it all day.
She had never forgotten their promise: once she turned twenty, she and Han Mo could officially be together.
Now she was truly twenty—in every sense of the word.
It was a workday, and the shop was quiet. Resting her chin in her hand, she let her imagination run wild.
“Meili, what kind of surprise do you think Han Mo is going to give me?”
“Do you think he’ll land a helicopter right outside the shop and fly me off to one of those islands owned by foreigners...”
“Or maybe he’ll just transfer a few billion to me and say he’ll take care of me for the rest of my life?”
“And then there’s...”
Qi Meili couldn’t be bothered to answer. “Do you think a few billion can just be transferred at the drop of a hat? Watch fewer cheesy short dramas!”
He Huanhuan wrinkled her nose with a grin. “Then he can do what he did for you—give me two huge diamonds.”
Qi Meili nodded. “That, he could manage.”
Preferably in different colors, so the two of them could trade them back and forth. That would be much more practical!
But He Huanhuan waited and waited until the sky grew dark.
Forget a helicopter—even her BYD never showed up.
It wasn’t until they closed the shop and were getting ready to go home that the familiar beat-up car finally rolled to a stop by the roadside.
Han Mo looked slightly exhausted as he apologized to her. “Something came up at the company. I just finished dealing with it. Have you had dinner? If not, I’ll take you somewhere to eat.”
He Huanhuan was furious!
He had actually forgotten what day it was!
She glared at him, cheeks puffed out. “I’m not eating!”
Han Mo got out anyway and opened the passenger-side door. “But I haven’t eaten yet. Come have dinner with me, okay?”
“I’m not...”
She refused angrily, but Meili hurriedly poked her. “Go with him! Older men love pulling this kind of thing. He’s definitely got a surprise planned! I swear!”
Her husband, Liang Zheng, loved doing this sort of thing.
Whether it was a surprise or a present, he always insisted on putting it after a period of disappointment and anger, using the emotional whiplash to heighten the excitement.
People really did get like that with age.
He Huanhuan cast Meili a suspicious glance. “Really?”
If that was true, then she supposed she could temporarily put aside her anger...
Without another word, Meili pushed her toward the car. “Absolutely true! Go already!”
Once they were in the car, Han Mo still didn’t say anything. He simply asked his usual questions: what she had done that day, whether anything had happened at the shop, what she wanted to eat...
But her heart began to race despite herself.
This wasn’t the road into the city!
He really had prepared some kind of ridiculous surprise!
Hahahaha!
Her heart was practically soaring with excitement—until the car stopped somewhere completely unexpected.
She stood in front of a dark, dilapidated house, stunned.
“Isn’t this the place where we secretly lived after your car accident?”
Han Mo smiled and nodded. “It is. I bought it. From now on, it belongs to us.”
...
He Huanhuan was speechless. “What am I supposed to do with this thing?”
It was so old and run-down!
She turned to Han Mo and demanded, “How much did you pay for it?”
Smiling, Han Mo pushed open the door and led her into the pitch-black room. “The money doesn’t matter. What matters is that this place holds our memories. That’s precious, isn’t it?”
He Huanhuan wanted to say, Precious my ass!
Money was obviously more precious!
But when the moonlight filtered through the broken roof and spilled across the room before her, she couldn’t bring herself to say any of it.
“Ah...”
She let out a groan. “This is not the kind of proposal I wanted! It’s not romantic at all!”
Who wanted to be proposed to in a house this shabby?
It was seriously so shabby!
“This isn’t even as good as Meili’s! At least she got two huge diamonds!”
“There are.”
Beneath the scattered moonlight, a large diamond ring shimmering with dazzling colors appeared before her eyes.
Han Mo lowered his head to look at her, his eyes filled with tender affection.
“Do you remember when we first met? Your hair was dyed all sorts of colors. I spotted you at once...”
“Really?”
Han Mo nodded. “Really.”
How could he not have? She had been so eye-catching, so flamboyant.
He placed the ring in her hand.
“Huanhuan, I’m a very boring man, yet I fell in love with someone as bold and dazzling as you. Will you be with a boring man like me? Forever?”
He Huanhuan had imagined their confession countless times. She had pictured every possible scenario.
But never words this specific.
A solemn request to be together.
The answer was clearly on the tip of her tongue, yet she didn’t know how to say it.
Her eyes began to sting. Instinctively, she broke the solemn mood.
“Meili got two diamonds. Why do I only get one...”
She didn’t really want two diamonds. She simply felt a little unsettled, as if her heart hadn’t quite found its place.
“There are.”
Han Mo nodded seriously. Then, as if performing a magic trick, he pulled a dazzling diamond necklace from behind his back.
“Anything you want, you’ll have.”
“Then I want flowers!”
“There are.”
The pitch-black house suddenly lit up, revealing bundles and bundles of flowers piled across the bed behind them.
Huge bouquets, blooming in full splendor, covered the entire bed.
The very bed they had once shared.
She couldn’t help crying out in surprise. “Oh my God! Where did you get all these?”
Han Mo reached out and slipped an arm around her shoulders. “Do you like them?”
She nodded without hesitation. “I love them!”
“Then be with me?”
She blinked. “But there’s no...”
“There is.”
She puffed out her cheeks and glared at Han Mo. “I haven’t even said what it is yet! I was going to say—mmph...”
His smiling eyes suddenly came close, and his lips covered her deliberately teasing mouth, silencing every word she had been about to say.
“As long as it’s something you want, I’ll have it for you. We’ll be together forever, okay?”
“Mm... okay.”
