Chapter 133: How About Getting Married While We're at It
The marriage registration process was incredibly fast. Before the clerk stamped the final seal, Gu Jingchen gave He Yunzhi one last chance to back out.
“Are you sure you want to marry me?” he asked.
He Yunzhi was an only child. Her father was the president of a university of technology and a deputy ministerial-level official.
In their marriage, he was unquestionably the one benefiting more.
With all the advantages she brought to the table, there was absolutely nothing for him to hesitate over.
He Yunzhi turned to him. “What about you? Are you sure?”
Sure you want to go crazy with me?
Gu Jingchen smiled. “I think I’m very sure.”
After all, she was quite beautiful.
He Yunzhi nodded and said to the clerk, “Go ahead and stamp it. We’ve made up our minds.”
The clerk wasted no time and stamped the documents at once, not giving them another chance to reconsider.
She had to make sure they understood that her red envelope hadn’t been accepted for nothing!
The bright-red marriage certificates were handed to them. He Yunzhi was so excited that she had no idea what to do next.
She had to... she had to...
Then she heard He Huanhuan beside her say, “You have to post this on WeChat Moments!”
Right!
She had to post it—on a post visible only to her parents, so they could see it right away!
Her eyes gleaming, she turned to Gu Jingchen. “Let’s take a picture together and post it.”
He Huanhuan eagerly raised her hand. “I’ll take it for you!”
He Yunzhi had originally intended to take a picture of the marriage certificates alone, but after hearing that, she suddenly changed her mind.
Following He Huanhuan’s instructions, she and Gu Jingchen stood in the designated photo area. Holding their marriage certificates, they faced the camera and wore what she thought was a defiant smile.
Completely unaware of the situation, He Huanhuan said, “Yes! Keep smiling like that! You look gorgeous!”
She pressed the shutter, capturing the brightest smile He Yunzhi had ever worn.
He Yunzhi practically snatched the phone away, quickly choosing the audience for the post and getting ready to publish it.
Caption: Sometimes, you just have to let yourself go.
One second before she tapped “Post,” Gu Jingchen suddenly said, “Why don’t you ask Huanhuan what kind of caption she would use?”
He Yunzhi abruptly looked up at him. Did he know what he was doing?
Gu Jingchen still wore that smiling expression. “When it comes to letting loose, isn’t someone who’s truly shameless better at it?”
Her heart gave a sudden tremor.
He really did know what he was doing.
He knew he wanted to let loose—and was he accepting that side of himself, too?
What Gu Jingchen wanted to say was that this tiny bit of recklessness was really nothing in his family.
After all, his family had a punk little sister who changed her explosively colorful hairstyle every other day, a would-be kept man whose sole ambition was to marry a rich woman, and someone who had taken his recklessness so far that he’d ended up behind a sewing machine in prison...
Compared with them, what did this little act of rebellion from He Yunzhi amount to?
But He Yunzhi didn’t know that. To her, everything she had done today had been outrageously bold.
That included this caption.
He Huanhuan glanced at it. “What is this supposed to be? Why did you post such a lame caption, Sister?”
“Lame? Then what kind of caption would count as letting loose?”
He Huanhuan spread her hands and began dictating. “We met! We fell in love! We made it legal!”
Meili immediately chimed in, “I’m into him because he’s young! I’m into him because he’s in great shape!”
He Huanhuan continued, “I’m obsessed! I love him to death! He’s the only one for me!”
Meili went all out. “We’ll be sleeping under the same blanket from now on. I’ll be able to turn around and kiss him whenever I want.”
“...”
He Yunzhi stared at them. “Isn’t that a little too shameless?”
The sisters clearly thought this was nothing. They hadn’t even put any real thought into it.
He Huanhuan asked, “Aren’t you trying to let loose? Why are you still afraid of going too far?”
He Yunzhi was speechless. There was such a huge gap between her and the two of them that she could barely keep up.
And yet, she couldn’t stop herself from feeling tempted. After pressing the delete key several times, she typed out a new line.
[We met, fell in love, and made it legal.]
She didn’t know why, but when she typed out essentially the same words, they instantly seemed much more restrained.
She steeled herself and tapped “Post,” then waited for the judgment to arrive.
She had already done something crazy. If she couldn’t face the consequences, then the rest of her life would remain under someone else’s control forever.
A video call came through almost immediately. She took a deep breath and answered.
Her father appeared on-screen, jumping with rage. “He Yunzhi! What the hell did you post on WeChat Moments? Stop playing with AI—it’s bad for your brain. Delete it!”
He Yunzhi held up her marriage certificate. “Dad, it’s not AI. I’m married.”
Her father froze. “What did you say? What have you done? Weren’t you going on a blind date today? You...”
He Yunzhi nodded and cut him off. “Yes. It went well, so we registered our marriage.”
The voice on the other end instantly rose several octaves. “What kind of nonsense are you talking about? Do you even know what you’re doing?”
He Yunzhi laughed recklessly. “Of course I do. Didn’t you two go crazy insisting that I get married? I did. So why are you upset?”
Before her father could explode again, He Huanhuan and Qi Meili leaned into the frame and greeted him.
“Hello, Uncle!”
Her father fell silent at once.
“This, this...”
His eyes hurt. His head hurt, too. It felt as though he’d just been assaulted.
Stammering, he asked, “This... they’re...?”
A mischievous glint flashed through He Yunzhi’s eyes. “My sister-in-law. She’s the Gu family’s heiress.”
Her father’s vision went black, and he nearly fainted.
What kind of family had Old Liang introduced to Yunzhi? How could they have raised such bizarre daughters?
Terrifying! Absolutely terrifying!
He didn’t even dare look at them for long. He hurriedly told He Yunzhi, “Come home! Right now!”
Then he hung up the video call in an instant, afraid that one more glance would make his heart seize.
He Huanhuan was puzzled. “Sister Yunzhi, your dad is so rude.”
She had greeted him, but he hadn’t even replied.
He Yunzhi couldn’t help laughing. “Yes, he’s always been rude. Ha-ha...”
He Huanhuan shook her head. “Don’t be sad, Sister. You don’t get to choose your parents. Just don’t pay them too much attention. We should focus on living our own lives.”
Yes. They only needed to live their own lives.
How had she failed to understand such a simple truth all these years?
He Yunzhi looked at He Huanhuan and nodded solemnly. “I know. I will.”
With that, she prepared to drive home. She had a grand gift to deliver to her parents.
As he watched her leave, He Huanhuan glanced at the Civil Affairs Bureau behind them and asked Han Mo, “Since we’re already here, should we get married while we’re at it?”
Han Mo gave her a helpless look. “You’re not old enough yet.”
He Huanhuan grinned mischievously. “My ID says I’m old enough~”
According to the age on her ID card, she had already turned twenty.
Han Mo helplessly pulled her toward the car. “Stop teasing me. I promised to wait two years for you, and I won’t go back on my word.”
He Huanhuan couldn’t help feeling a little happy, so she leaned closer and asked, “It’s only two years. Whether we wait with a marriage certificate or without one, we’re still waiting...”
Han Mo pushed open the car door at once. “Then let’s go get the certificate now.”
“Just drive!”
