Chapter 130: Liang Zheng's Revenge
The sale of the house went remarkably smoothly. From signing the contract and transferring the money to completing the title transfer—and all the way until the entire family had moved out—the two tycoons never said another word.
The homeowner cursed inwardly. Damn rich people. All it took was a flick of their fingers to make his life unforgettable!
From now on, he was going to do nothing but hate on the rich.
Fortunately, his overseas-Chinese friend had still proved reliable. As he looked at the 2.8 million yuan in his bank account, he finally felt a little comforted.
At least his parents’ retirement funds were secured, and so were the fees for his child’s tutoring and extracurricular classes.
He and his wife could finally breathe a little easier, too.
The family climbed into the truck and left the neighborhood for good, heading off to live better lives.
Meanwhile, on the fifth floor, He Huanhuan and Qi Meili opened the door, ready to go out for dinner. The moment they saw the people in the apartment across from them, they were utterly stunned.
He Huanhuan exclaimed, “Big Brother? What are you doing here?”
Gu Jingchen smiled gently. “You used to live alone on an entire floor. I was worried you wouldn’t be able to adjust after moving into a smaller place, so I bought the apartment next door as well and had the two units connected. That way, you’d be more comfortable.”
He had also conveniently kept a room for himself, so he could come over and stay for a few days whenever he wanted.
He Huanhuan was so touched she could hardly contain herself. “Big Brother, you’re way too considerate! Oh my gosh! You’re my favorite person in this family!”
Qi Meili nodded frantically. “Mine too! Big Brother is my favorite!”
From now on, the entire floor belonged to the two of them. Oh my gosh, this was amazing.
The smile at the corners of Gu Jingchen’s lips deepened. “Remember to save a room for me. I’ll come stay for a couple of days whenever I miss you.”
The two women nodded vigorously. “We’ll save one! We definitely will!”
By the time Han Mo and Liang Zheng realized what was happening, the wall between the two apartments had already been knocked through, and the renovation crew had moved in and started work.
Liang Zheng sat on the sofa and let out a cold laugh. “Well played, Gu Jingchen!”
So he had used the old “when the snipe and clam fight, the fisherman benefits” trick on them, had he?
He immediately got up and went to his father’s study, where he retrieved his father’s address book.
Gu Jingchen wasn’t getting any younger. It was time he started thinking about his personal life.
Page by page, Liang Zheng carefully browsed the address book, seriously helping Gu Jingchen select the most suitable blind-date candidate.
He had already figured it out. Qi Meili had a knot in her heart, and he would slowly work on untying it.
Qi Meili liked handsome men. As long as he remained the best single man by her side, she would never notice anyone else.
The foremost candidates were, of course, the brothers Gu Jingchen and Gu Jinghan.
And the first person he had to deal with was Gu Jingchen.
Gu Jingchen was far too cunning. Liang Zheng had to find him someone he absolutely couldn’t refuse—and couldn’t bear to refuse, either.
Matchmaker Zheng flipped through half of his father’s address book before finally finding a woman who was a perfect match for Gu Jingchen.
Uncle He’s beloved daughter, He Yunzhi.
She came from a highly educated family, had earned her doctorate from a top-tier university, and was now an associate professor at Jiangcheng University. Gentle, elegant, and intellectually accomplished, she was practically the ultimate all-rounder on the blind-date market.
He opened his phone’s contacts, found He Yunzhi, and began carefully scrolling through her social-media posts one by one.
He went all the way back five years. Five years ago, He Yunzhi had yet to graduate, and her posts were much livelier than they were now.
“An academic air is the most precious gift.”
The accompanying picture showed a male celebrity who had been popular at the time. He looked refined, with a gentle smile playing at the corners of his lips.
Liang Zheng’s lips curled upward slightly.
Wasn’t this just Gu Jingchen in his cultured persona?
He immediately stood up and went to find his father, who was taking a walk in the courtyard...
The next day at noon, just after finishing an online meeting, Gu Jingchen received a call from Old Mr. Gu.
“Jingchen, come home tonight.”
Ever since He Huanhuan had moved out, the two Gu brothers had been returning home much less often.
Gu Jinghan had moved straight into a hotel and couldn’t be bothered to go home unless necessary.
It wasn’t that he was unfilial. The main problem was that every time he went home, Jiang Yulan would cry at him.
She cried over how Gu Chacha had ended up like this, and how He Huanhuan was heartless—after living with them for so long, she had simply left without a second thought...
It drove him crazy. Didn’t she know perfectly well why it had happened?
Did she really need him to spell it out?
Whenever he did, the old man would get angry, slam the table, and yell at him. Then, after yelling, he would dock his allowance.
His allowance really couldn’t take many more deductions!
If he went home a few more times, he’d have to beg on the street for a living.
Gu Jingchen was in a slightly better situation. Whenever Jiang Yulan started crying, he would simply tell her to stop. He’d say that crying too much would cause fine lines, and Jiang Yulan would immediately rein herself in.
His mother spent at least three to five million yuan a year on facial treatments.
If she really cried herself into fine lines, she’d have to spend several million more.
Gu Jingchen checked the date. It had been two or three days since he’d gone home, so he nodded and agreed.
“Alright. I’ll head home after work.”
There wasn’t much to do that afternoon, so he drove home early.
The moment he stepped through the door, he sensed that something was off about the atmosphere. His parents’ faces were practically glowing with delight.
He hadn’t seen either of them look this happy in quite some time. What had happened?
He sat down across from them and asked, “Is there some good news?”
“There is! There is indeed good news!”
The smile reached all the way to the corners of Gu Chengye’s eyes. “Old Liang has introduced you to someone. Do you want to take a look?”
Gu Jingchen frowned. “Uncle Liang? Since when have you been in touch with him? Why is he introducing someone to me?”
Could it be Liang Zheng?
Why would he suddenly introduce a woman to him?
Before he could think it through, Gu Chengye had already handed him He Yunzhi’s résumé.
“Take a look first. She’s an exceptionally good girl. Everything about her is excellent—not a single flaw.”
Jiang Yulan nodded along. “She’s a professor, and she’s beautiful too. Her family is respectable as well. You have to go meet her.”
Gu Jingchen stared at the résumé in his hand, his brows drawing together even more. “Where did this résumé come from? Does the young lady know you have it?”
Such a detailed résumé contained personal information. How had it ended up in their hands?
Jiang Yulan smiled gently. “Uncle Liang gave it to your father. He probably got it from her parents. Just look it over properly. Her education, family background, appearance, and career are all excellent...”
Gu Chengye patted his knee. “Your Uncle Liang and I have already arranged it. The two of you will meet sometime this weekend. Make sure you keep your schedule free. Your Uncle Liang will let us know the details.”
Gu Jingchen’s eyes swept seriously over the résumé.
He Yunzhi, thirty-one years old, associate professor at Jiangcheng University.
She was an exceptionally accomplished woman.
Beside him, Gu Chengye began rambling on about the He family. “Yunzhi’s father is the president of Jiangcheng University of Technology. I believe the university is on the eastern side of the city. Once the East District project gets underway, you’ll be seeing him...”
The president of the University of Technology—a vice-ministerial-level official.
What an impressive family background. And her own qualifications were just as formidable.
His gaze passed over the photograph on the résumé. She had a delicate, refined face, and the smile on her lips was gentle yet full of strength.
She was the kind of woman no one could easily refuse.
Gu Jingchen nodded and agreed. “Alright. I’ll keep the weekend free.”
