Chapter 110: Do You Know Brother Leopard
Gu Jinghan sat in the car without getting out, while Qi Meili was practically frantic. “If we don’t go now, we won’t get anything to eat!”
Gu Jinghan gave her a sly smile. “The dishes haven’t even been served yet. What are you rushing for? Let them chat for a while. It has nothing to do with us.”
He nudged Qi Meili with his elbow and asked curiously, “What was up with that guy at the hotel just now? Since when did you develop such terrible taste?”
Qi Meili’s face darkened instantly. “Don’t remind me. He used a handsome guy’s photo to trick me! I’m furious! I thought he was going to be some gorgeous, blue-eyed blond!”
Gu Jinghan recalled Sang Biao’s face. “He looked painfully average. Don’t bother with him anymore. If you really want, I can drug my brother and send him over to you.”
Qi Meili’s eyes lit up at once. “Really?”
His long, distinct knuckles knocked against her forehead. “You little pervert! I knew you had your eye on my brother!”
Every time Gu Jingshen came back, Qi Meili’s eyes would automatically grow misty.
Gu Jinghan glanced at himself in the rearview mirror. “Am I not handsome? Why don’t you get all misty-eyed when you look at me?”
Qi Meili looked confused. “Aren’t you trying to marry into money? I’m not rich.”
Gu Jinghan shot her an exasperated look. “You’re actually very principled.”
Qi Meili grinned. “Hehe. Not making things difficult for a beauty is basic courtesy.”
The two of them chatted in the car for a while before finally getting out and heading upstairs. Surprisingly, the atmosphere upstairs was quite harmonious. He Huanhuan was animatedly chatting with Qi Yuan.
She asked Qi Yuan, “Wasn’t the package supposed to last seven days? Why did you come back early?”
Qi Yuan explained gently, “My brother had some business at work, so we came back ahead of schedule.”
He didn’t mention the attempted ambush by Brother Hu and the others in their room.
Everyone looked as if they knew nothing. He was afraid that bringing it up recklessly might alert Brother Bao.
Did they know Brother Bao?
After thinking it over, he tentatively said to He Huanhuan, “It’s a shame. I heard there’s a Brother Bao performance the day after tomorrow. Apparently, it’s quite entertaining.”
“An Indian myna?”
He Huanhuan looked puzzled. “What’s so entertaining about a myna performance? Doesn’t it just imitate people?”
Qi Yuan understood immediately. She didn’t know who Brother Bao was.
Then why had Brother Bao tried to abduct her?
He glanced at Qi Meili beside him. Qi Meili smiled sweetly and looked back at him. “Dr. Qi, you like mynas? What a coincidence! I used to raise one when I was little.”
Gu Jinghan was astonished. “Seriously? You used to raise one of those things?”
...
Of course it was a lie! If you wanted to make a beauty happy, naturally you had to appeal to her interests!
What else was she supposed to say?
“Watching a bird talk isn’t entertaining at all”? Honestly, he had no idea how to play along.
The two of them turned around and began bickering. Qi Yuan merely smiled and didn’t interrupt.
Looks like she didn’t know either.
The instant he withdrew his gaze, he suddenly sensed something wrong. His eyes shifted sharply to the left, where they met a heavy gaze.
The eyes were filled with wariness and scrutiny.
It was Han Mo. He knew who Brother Bao was.
Neither of them said a word. Their gazes met silently in the air, probing each other. In the end, they lowered their eyes in tacit understanding.
The rest of the meal went remarkably smoothly. Han Mo no longer flaunted his wealth or displayed his intimacy with He Huanhuan.
He simply ate in silence.
It wasn’t until they had finished eating and settled the bill that Han Mo glanced at him with a smile. “Where do you live, Dr. Qi? Is it far? Why don’t I drive you home?”
Qi Yuan nodded agreeably. “Then I’ll trouble you.”
The other three stared in confusion.
Since when had those two become so friendly?
Sitting in Gu Jinghan’s car, He Huanhuan watched Han Mo’s vehicle slowly drive away and asked, utterly baffled, “What’s with Han Mo? Why is he driving Dr. Qi home for no reason?”
Were they really that close?
Why wasn’t he driving her home?
Gu Jinghan frowned in thought. “Dr. Qi has a PhD. He may have been overwhelmed by the power of knowledge and decided to set sail for the sea of learning, saying goodbye forever to uncultured people like us...”
Smack!
He Huanhuan slapped him on the back of the head. “Shut up! You’re always saying things I don’t want to hear!”
How was she uncultured?
She had passed the entrance exam for high school. She just hadn’t gone.
These days, as long as you passed the high school entrance exam, you could go to college.
By a generous process of rounding up, she was a college student too, all right?
Gu Jinghan silently gave her a thumbs-up. “I admire your confidence. Keep it up.”
He started the car and drove toward home. “Maybe he suddenly felt threatened. He could be threatening the doctor in the car right now, telling him to stop coveting you.”
“What?”
He Huanhuan was dumbfounded. “You think Dr. Qi is interested in me? Are you out of your mind?”
She had only video-chatted with Qi Yuan twice. They were barely more familiar than strangers passing on the street.
How could Qi Yuan possibly like her?
That was ridiculous.
Qi Meili was even more bewildered. “He likes Huanhuan? No way! He’s so old. How could he possibly be good enough for our Huanhuan?”
Didn’t you have to be thirty by the time you finished a PhD? Good grief! That was ancient!
Gu Jinghan: “...”
“You just said he was handsome.”
Wasn’t her attitude changing a little too quickly?
Qi Meili pursed her lips. “So what? Handsome is handsome, but he’s still not good enough for our Huanhuan, okay?”
Gu Jinghan glanced at He Huanhuan and couldn’t help nodding. “That’s true. He is a little lacking.”
His little sister was wonderful—lively, adorable, sunny, and beautiful. She was only a bit too old.
If she were a little younger, she could wait until he was old and then smash the funeral basin and arrange his funeral for him.
What a pity!
He still had to marry into money. When he got old, he would hire a dozen caregivers to look after him around the clock.
The atmosphere in Han Mo’s car was nowhere near as cheerful. He looked heavily at Qi Yuan. “How do you know Brother Bao?”
“What about you?”
Qi Yuan’s gaze remained firmly fixed on Han Mo. “How do you know Brother Bao?”
Brother Bao was a major cyberfraud king in the northern part of Myanmar. How could Han Mo know him?
What relationship did they have?
Han Mo’s eyes flickered, but he didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “At the dinner table, you were testing Huanhuan. Why? What did Brother Bao do in Sawa?”
Qi Yuan’s gaze grew even more certain. “You really do know him.”
Han Mo’s expression turned icy. “Mr. Qi, I’m sure you’re also very worried about Huanhuan’s safety, aren’t you?”
Don’t test him. Tell him everything you know.
Their goals were the same: to keep Huanhuan from falling into danger and make sure she wasn’t harmed in the slightest.
Their gazes remained locked in a silent standoff through the rearview mirror until a soft ding came from a phone.
Qi Yuan glanced at the screen. It was a message from Qi Jin:
Bro! All the people we captured in Sawa escaped! I swear, is the Sawa police force made of shit or what?
The tension drained away in an instant.
They had personally handed those people over to the Sawa police, yet somehow they had escaped.
He wasn’t stupid enough to actually believe they had gotten away on their own. Just who was the all-powerful Brother Bao?
What did he want with He Huanhuan?
He didn’t know, and there was no way for him to find out.
He was just an ordinary doctor. In fact, once he got back, he still had an overnight shift to work.
He glanced at the man beside him.
Money could indeed accomplish many things.
In a low voice, he said, “Brother Bao had people stationed in Sawa. They planned to abduct Huanhuan and the others in the middle of the night...”
