Chapter 108: Hello, Dr. Qi
With Chen Jiarong’s promise of a little extra money secured, Xiao Qian waved them off in satisfaction.
As they turned to leave, Xiao Qian’s sharp eyes caught a slender figure flickering past the door.
That fleeting glimpse of a delicate face reminded him of what Brother Hu had said: Brother Bao had killed those two girls for the sake of one woman.
Curiosity stirred in his heart. The moment he left the room, he pulled out his phone and searched online.
Reports about the Gu family’s real and fake heiresses quickly popped up. The two faces matched perfectly.
So that was it.
Sang Biao leaned over curiously. “What are you looking at?”
Xiao Qian shut off his phone and shot him a disdainful look. “Why are you curious about everything? Are you three years old?”
Sang Biao shrank his neck. “You don’t want to show me, then don’t. Why are you snapping at me? I just got dumped...”
Xiao Qian couldn’t help rolling his eyes again.
When the taxi stopped in front of the hotel, Sang Biao was stunned to discover that they had returned to the very hotel where he had just been beaten up!
He was baffled. “Why are we here?”
Xiao Qian paid the fare and got out. “We stay wherever Brother Bao tells us to stay. Why do you have so many questions?”
After swiping the room card and entering, Xiao Qian pulled out a hundred yuan and handed it to Sang Biao. “Go pay the driver back. Don’t make us men look bad.”
Sang Biao accepted the money with a grin. “Xiao Qian, you’re so good to me.”
Xiao Qian couldn’t be bothered to answer. “Hurry up. We still have serious business to discuss when you get back.”
“Got it!”
Sang Biao took the money and left without the slightest hesitation.
Once the door closed, Xiao Qian’s expression turned solemn. He pulled the file from inside his shirt and handed it to Xiao Zuo and Xiao You.
“This is a little complicated. Take a look and tell me what we should do.”
“What’s so complicated about killing two people?”
Xiao You accepted the file with a cheerful grin, but the moment he opened it, he froze.
“Holy crap! No way! Is this some kind of TV drama?”
Xiao Zuo’s eyes widened instantly. “What the hell? Isn’t this Sang Biao’s online girlfriend?”
If Sang Biao found out, how were they supposed to carry out the job?
That guy was unreliable enough as it was!
Xiao Qian nodded. “That’s why we can’t let him know. The three of us will handle it. Don’t let him get involved.”
Xiao Zuo nodded along. “Right, right... absolutely don’t let him know.”
What if the guy went berserk? Wouldn’t their trip back to the country be for nothing?
He hadn’t smoked weed for several days and was already dying for it. He still wanted to return to Sawa and spend a whole week getting high!
They absolutely couldn’t let Sang Biao ruin their business.
Xiao You couldn’t help asking, “Do we still split the money with him?”
They couldn’t exactly let him do nothing and still take an equal share, could they?
Xiao Qian glared at him irritably. “Of course we split it with him. Do you think he’d be happy otherwise?”
Obviously not. He had followed them back to the country, so he was definitely expecting to earn this money.
If Xiao Qian and the others kicked him out without a word, he would surely make a scene.
To be safe, they’d better give him a share.
Xiao You pursed his lips unhappily. “That’s way too easy for him. He does nothing and gets a share for free!”
The instant he finished speaking, a devastated sob came from behind the three of them.
“Don’t give me any of it! I don’t want this money!”
...
The three men turned around. Sang Biao was standing in the doorway, though none of them knew when he had arrived. His face was full of disbelief.
“Xiao Qian, you were just putting on an act, right? You were deliberately messing with me, weren’t you?”
How could something this absurd happen by coincidence?
He wasn’t the male lead in a cheesy romance drama. How could he possibly run into a situation like this?
But Xiao Qian stood there with a stern expression and said nothing, while Xiao Zuo and Xiao You immediately charged toward Sang Biao.
Everything was telling him the same thing: he really had become the tragic male lead in a melodramatic romance!
He slammed the door shut, then ran toward the elevator.
He had to go protect his love!
Xiao Zuo and Xiao You chased after him. Sang Biao had no choice but to dart into the stairwell and race downward.
He wanted to find Meili, but he had no idea which floor she was staying on. All he could do was charge frantically toward the lobby.
“Sang Biao! Get your ass back here!”
Xiao Zuo chased him down the stairs, shouting angrily, “Come back and we’ll talk this over!”
Sang Biao ran even faster. “I don’t believe you!”
He sprinted into the hotel lobby, and the moment he looked up, he saw Qi Meili standing by the entrance.
“Meili!”
Without a second thought, he rushed over and threw his arms around her.
“Waaah... Meili! Be with me! I swear I’ll never hurt you!”
He was so emotional that he lost control of his strength. In an instant, he had lifted Meili completely off the ground.
The sight left the siblings standing nearby speechless.
Gu Jinghan rubbed his eyes. “Has Meili’s taste really gotten this bad after just one day?”
He Huanhuan quietly pulled out her phone and snapped a picture. Then she pushed Gu Jinghan forward.
“Go rescue Meili!”
But their help wasn’t needed at all. Meili swung her legs up and delivered a flying kick, making Sang Biao yelp and release her.
“Ow!”
Before Meili had even fully regained her balance, her palm was already swinging.
“Didn’t I warn you?”
Smack!
“Stay the hell away from me!”
Smack!
“Otherwise, I’ll hit you every time I see you!”
Smack!
The sound of slaps mixed with her curses, echoing through the hotel lobby.
Xiao Zuo and Xiao You took advantage of the opportunity to rush out. They grabbed Sang Biao by the arms and tried to drag him away.
“Sorry about this, sis! We’ll take him away right now!”
Sang Biao struggled wildly. “I’m not leaving! Meili! Be with me! I’ll treat you well!”
Meili raised her middle finger without the slightest hesitation.
“I don’t like ugly guys. Get lost.”
Her rejection was so crisp and complete that she left Sang Biao no room for hope.
Sang Biao burst into tears. “If you won’t be with me, then I won’t protect you anymore!”
Meili shot him a disgusted look. “Get lost!”
Who needed him to protect her anyway? He could barely speak properly!
All of a sudden, Sang Biao stopped struggling and allowed Xiao Zuo and Xiao You to drag him into the stairwell.
After shutting the stairwell door, Xiao You cautiously asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
Why did he suddenly look so utterly heartbroken? It was kind of frightening.
Sang Biao rose to his feet with a mournful expression. “Now that I’ve lost love, I can’t lose the money too. Let’s go back and discuss how we’re going to do the job.”
The three of them quickly headed upstairs and disappeared into the stairwell.
At that moment, a cool, elegant figure stepped out of a taxi in front of the hotel entrance. Wearing gold-rimmed glasses, he walked slowly into the hotel.
He Huanhuan jumped up and waved at him. “Dr. Qi, over here!”
Qi Yuan spotted He Huanhuan at once. She was even more vibrant and lively in person than she had been in her photos and videos, smiling and waving at him like a little sun.
The corners of his mouth lifted involuntarily. Then he strode toward her.
When he reached He Huanhuan, he smiled and asked, “Have you been waiting long?”
He Huanhuan waved dismissively. “Not at all!”
If she hadn’t been waiting for him, they wouldn’t have come downstairs so early—and they certainly wouldn’t have gotten to witness such an entertaining spectacle!
She asked Qi Yuan, “Dr. Qi, what do you feel like eating?”
Qi Yuan reached up and adjusted his glasses. “Anything is fine.”
He Huanhuan lowered her head to look at the map. “Then how about mala tang? You said you wanted to try it. There’s a mala tang restaurant nearby. Let’s go eat there together. How about it, Han Mo?”
“Of course,” Han Mo replied.
A clear, warm male voice suddenly sounded behind him. Qi Yuan spun around and saw Han Mo standing there, the corners of his lips curved ever so slightly. “Hello, Dr. Qi.”
