Chapter 17: A Fake Banking App
The executives abandoned their fear of Cross Capital, surging toward Jude and Victoria.
In the cutthroat world of foreign trade, immediate liquid capital was king...
A firm that could drop two hundred million dollars in cash on a Tuesday morning was a financial deity.
"Mr. Lawson! Please, review my prospectus!"
"Sir, my logistics firm can absorb fifty million right now!"
"Mr. Lawson, over here!"
Damian was shoved aside by a desperate tech CEO. He stumbled back, panic washing over him.
If this mysterious billionaire actually injected two hundred million dollars into the market today, Cross Capital’s influence over these companies would evaporate overnight.
"You think you can outspend my family?" Damian snarled, pulling his phone from his suit.
He marched to the corner of the atrium, furiously dialing his father, the CEO of Cross Capital. He needed the board to authorize an emergency war chest, right this second.
While Damian was panicking, Jude activated his newly acquired *Absolute Appraisal* skill.
Instantly, the world around him shifted. As he looked at the desperate executives shoving their portfolios into his hands, glowing lines of text hovered over their heads.
He looked at a man pitching a massive overseas real estate venture.
[Projected 5-Year ROI: -22%. Hidden Flaw: Severe structural debt.]
Jude passed him over without a second glance.
He scanned the crowd, his eyes darting from person to person until he spotted a nervous woman clutching a tablet.
[Overseas Microchip Logistics. Projected 5-Year ROI: +135%. Highly lucrative.]
"You," Jude pointed to her. "I’ll take forty percent of your equity for seventy million."
The woman burst into tears of joy.
Using his *Absolute Appraisal*, Jude selected two more companies with guaranteed returns over the next five years.
He didn’t care that he was dipping into his own personal cash reserves to supplement the fifty-million-dollar offshore fund. He knew the returns would be astronomical.
Victoria’s fingers flew across her laptop keyboard, drafting the rapid-fire investment contracts and executing the wire transfers directly from Jude’s accounts.
In less than twenty minutes, Jude had successfully deployed exactly two hundred million dollars!
[Ding!]
The chime rang out clearly in Jude’s mind.
[Mission Completed: Establish Absolute Financial Dominance.]
[Reward: +1 Money Sign-In, +1 Platinum System Reward Box.]
[Escalation Mission Triggered: Crush the Opposition.]
[Objective: The rival entity is currently mobilizing capital to counter the Host. Outspend and utterly humiliate the opposing firm.]
[Reward: +2 Money Sign-Ins, +1 Diamond System Reward Box!]
Jude’s eyes lit up. A Diamond Box?
"Sign in," Jude thought.
[Money Sign-In Successful! Reward: $30,000,000 USD.]
The cash instantly hit his account, but Jude wasn’t focused on that. He immediately directed his attention to the Platinum Box he had just earned.
"Open the Platinum Reward Box."
[Opening Platinum System Reward Box...]
[Calculating RNG...]
[CRITICAL SYSTEM EVENT! The Host has triggered a 3x Multiplier Explosion!]
[Acquired Asset: $150,000,000 USD Offshore Investment Fund.]
[Acquired Asset: $150,000,000 USD Offshore Investment Fund.]
[Acquired Asset: $150,000,000 USD Offshore Investment Fund.]
Jude’s breath hitched in his throat.
His phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out, staring at the push notifications from his banking app.
Three separate, encrypted offshore wire transfers had just cleared into his portfolio.
Four hundred and fifty million dollars...
A total of four hundred and fifty million dollars had just been seamlessly deposited into his hands.
Jude stared at the series of zeros on his screen, blinded by the sheer scale of the wealth.
It was terrifying. He had spent two hundred million just minutes ago, and the system had instantly refunded him more than double.
Before Jude could even put his phone away, a loud laugh echoed across the atrium.
"Alright! Everyone listen up!"
Damian Cross marched back into the center of the room, looking incredibly smug.
"The Cross Capital board of directors just held an emergency vote," Damian announced, making sure his voice carried over the murmurs of the crowd. "And we have officially authorized an immediate liquidity injection of two hundred and fifty million dollars!"
Several executives gasped.
To raise two hundred and fifty million dollars in liquid cash in under twenty minutes was a staggering display of corporate power..
Damian turned to Jude. "Did you hear that, Lawson? Two hundred and fifty million. I told you that you couldn’t compete with a real legacy firm. You blew your two hundred million, and now Cross Capital is going to buy out the rest of the room. "
Jude looked at Damian’s triumphant face, then let out a chuckle.
He slowly began to clap his hands.
"I have to admit, Damian, that is a very impressive turnaround time for a dinosaur firm," Jude smiled, slipping one hand into his pocket. "Two hundred and fifty million is a solid effort."
Damian frowned, sensing the lack of fear in Jude’s voice. "It’s more than you have left."
"Is it?" Jude asked, pulling his phone back out and tapping the screen. "Because my offshore accounts just cleared another automatic transfer."
Jude held the phone up, showing the banking screen to Damian and the executives standing nearby.
"It’s not much," Jude sighed. "Just another four hundred and fifty million dollars in liquid cash. Now... who else needs funding?"
Dozens of the most powerful executives in the city stood frozen, their eyes locked on the screen of Jude’s phone.
Damian Cross stared at the screen. He blinked, rubbing his eyes as if the numbers were some kind of stress-induced hallucination.
"That’s... that’s a mockup," Damian stammered. "It’s a fake banking app! You expect me to believe a guy who came out of nowhere has half a billion in unfinanced cash just sitting on his phone? It’s a bluff!"
Damian looked around the room, trying to rally the executives. "Don’t fall for this, people! He’s a con artist! Cross Capital has real money! We have two hundred and fifty million ready to deploy right now!"
A few of the executives shifted nervously, looking between Damian and Jude.
The Cross family legacy was a known, terrifying entity.
Jude let out a disappointed sigh. He slipped his phone back into the inner pocket of his suit.
